Actually, 狐 means fox in Chinese too! Though the words are pronounced completely different.
In Japanese, it's pronounced as きつね (Kit-su-ne) but in Chinese it's just "Hú".
Imagine if there would be a language that spelled every word exactly as English but pronounced every letter of the alphabet differently so the word sounded completely different! Like, if T was instead pronounced R
Also, if anyone's curious, I'm actually using Japanese keyboard input for writing in Japanese and not just Google!
