My father
« on: June 03, 2010, 09:42:30 AM »
Being a furry has made me really happy. Before that, I was never happy at all. My brother and my sister knows I am a furry and they are cool with it. But my parents don't know. I know my mother would except me for who I am. But, I am more worried about my father. He isn't the type of guy that would expected anything Taboo. I am extremely terrified to tell him, one reason why is that I remember, when I was young, he told me and my brother, that if we ever turn gay, he would disown us. That and "We are Mexicans, act like one", what I am thinking, if I am anything other than a "Mexican" I would either be told to change my ways, or be kicked out of the house(similar situations has happened before). I love my family, they are everything to me, but I also love my Furry family as well. I really don't know what to do about this situation.

In my opinion, you should simply wait till' you are ready to tell your father. Don't rush anything. After all, I'm sure you've got plenty of time! You may not even have to tell him; Being a furry doesn't usually drastically change your lifestyle but if you really want to tell him I would suggest waiting until you feel comfortable with doing so, or until you can be independent enough to deal with the possible situation of him throwing you out, but I don't see any reason why he should.

I would tell him when you have your own job and house personally, because then what can he do? Stop adding minutes to your phone bill by calling your house phone from time to time? :P. Then again that's just my personal plan since I know how well it would go over with my parents, I don't really know what to say in your situation but if the risk is greater than the reward I would keep the personal info on a need-to-know basis.

You could just wait, although it might feel weird keeping it in. If he doesn't know what a furry is just tell him it's just your personality, you can't pin a personality on race.

Thanks for the advice, but I am afraid that if he ever finds out how can I explain it to him? I mean what if someone told him the wrong thing and gets the wrong idea?
