Decrease in Furries?
« on: June 06, 2010, 09:01:17 AM »
Sadly to say, i have noticed a large decrease in the fandom.
I think the most furries i have seen on at a time on this forum recently is 8-10 people. There are also very few new posts, and the RP's are slow and most are to old to post in. I've tried a few other forums, but they have even less people.
So is it just me or are the furries going downhill? i realise that it is 2 in the morning, and the last day of califur was yesterday, and i think the latter reason might be the biggest reason.
I really hope that the fandom does not diminish to nothing.
I'm glad that fur affinity has a very active site, although it doesn't contain the great features that TFF has (good forum, RP, an interactive community, and lots of other stuff).
I don't want to be negative, but it's just an observation i made.

I think the furry population is slowly growing but considering this is ONE site out of hundreds, go figure. One site doesn't constitute the overall figures, especially one like this as it's mainly IMVU based and isn't the biggest forum (Honest opinion), a forum like FurAffinity Forum would be the best one to measure. Plus you've got Facebook, Second Life, IMVU and other sites like Furry4Life, FurNation Ning just to name a few.

Good going Sparky, you did well. On the plus side, it's given you a chance to accidentally revisit some old stomping grounds and see what madness you can create during this seemingly temporarily return.

Actually it just depends on when you get here and what RP's you've been going to, Fun RP is a very active place on TFF upon all days of the week and lots of furs start out on forums as a way to learn about the Furry Fandom then perhaps afterwards leave upon doing more real life activities in the furry fandom like meet ups and conventions. Can't say I wouldn't want to do that either, but I love posting around here. I just think there are a lot more furs than even statistics can account for.

It's less of a decrease more of just the fact there aren't really enough online, if you go to a fur con you usually see a few hundred people there but online there is usually only about 40 regularly active people. But if you look in the meet and greet section we usually get about 4-6 new members a week even though not everyone stays active, I kn ow I've accidentally joined a site and then never went back on though so can't blame 'em. Also like mentioned there are hundreds of furry sites, and I think the ones with looser rules get more people to join. Also furry art sites get a lot of members like FA.
Also games like Second Life and IMVU there are usually a bunch of furries on it.

Yea.
This is more for the people discovering their furryness, not a place that they stay for a long time.
They'll learn the ropes for the most part, then leave for a site that has looser rules.

Activity comes and goes, some times of the year are busier than others. The fandom isn't going to disappear anytime soon.

Actually, I'm kinda the opposite of that. I stay on sites regardless of how tough the rules are. I've had links removed from posts many times, I've moaned but accept it. It's mainly the drama-furs that leave a site for another with looser rules, as I've found.

Yea, knda true.
I left this site for awhile because it was kinda on the small side and I wanted to meet more furs, but I think a bit of it was the rules too. But I DID get tired of some of the drama that went on elsewhere, so this is a nice place to relax. :)

well those old rps and stuff you're referring to are from a couple years ago. Sometimes people just move on from the Fandom or to other Forums.
absolutely nobody is online at 2:00 A.M. besides me in my haste to play video games and outdo the forum in staying awake forever.
It's a small forum, and most people come and go from here to other things. new people join everyday.
It's just the common goings on of this forum.

I guess its always hard to find big online community's when the fandom itself is relatively small.

They'll learn the ropes for the most part, then leave for a site that has looser rules.

The rules here arn,t that strict are they? And i always like to stay on forums i join, if they have a good community that is.
But then again, i dont know any other furs irl, so internet/forums is my only link to the fandom....  :(

From what i've been seeing, It's been increasing over the years greatly. I wouldn't worry about it dying out.

I left the first time because of the rules, but I knew that this site is a good one, so I couldn't stay away for too long. Even if the rules are a bit strict, this site is pretty awesome and my kudos goes to the moderators, admins and especially the members who make it good. Heck, I've even met two of the members IRL! Meeple and Tyla!
