Nintendo 3ds
« on: June 17, 2010, 02:33:24 AM »
Yesterday, Nintendo unveiled its successor to the ds at E3. The new console will be called the 3ds and posses 3d cappabilities and graphics that rival 6th generation home consoles. This new hanheld has several amazing games that are in production and will be on the amazing console next year. These games include: Kid Icarus Uprising, Mario Kart, nintendogs™ + cats, PilotWings Resort, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, StarFox 64 3D (my personal favorite), Resident Evil Revelations, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D, Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive 3D, Assassin’s Creed Lost Legacy, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon , Saint's Row: Drive By, Legend of Zelda OoT, and much more.
My faith in Nintendo has been revived. I believe that this console will easilly domminate the psp and iphone. There are no details on the release date and price. All I know is that I will purchase one on the first day it is released.

I'm both disappointed and happy about the announcement of Star Fox 64 3D. Disappointed because it's a remake of a game that's been played to death, I still own and it means that Nintendo have yet to make a new Star Fox games since 64 that was brilliant. Glad though because hey, it's a darn good game, it's the best Starfox game and 64 is generally agreed as having the right formula and unlike the newer games doesn't mess stuff up.
Finally having another in the Kid Icarus series is interesting but was to be expected after Pit made his Super Smash Bros Brawl appearance (just like how after Little Mac appeared in Brawl a new punch out game was released) but I'm again disappointed that Nintendo aren't showing their usual originality and are instead releasing a bunch of remakes or ports. Metal Gear Solid on a Nintendo Handheld? Awesome. That it's MGS 3? Meh, good but I'd rather have an original MGS game. Ocarina of Time? Yes it's widely regarded as the best video game of all time but seriously? Who hasn't played this by now? We had enough people arguing that Twilight Princess contained too many elements of OoT and now they're just remaking their classics?
Unless they pull off these remakes (Paper Mario might be one...?) really well like they did with Super Mario 64 DS and add sufficient content without ruining the original games or just being lazy and going "Ooh look, everything is beautiful and 3D now" then I'm not too sure...Of course, I'm still going to get a 3DS and buy these games anyway seeing as they're awesome and I could do with a handheld upgrade seeing as I'm still using the original DS from 2005 ^^;

As for dominating PSP and iPhone? Easily. The DS was dominating the PSP in terms of sales before the DS lite even came out and with Apple's policy towards games I don't foresee the iPhone becoming a major gaming platform. Small games? Yes. Some ports of the Doom and Quake series? Yes. Fully featured brand new games? Doubtful.
The farewell was premature. My definite stay is not definite. The constants are variable. The greeting was too late.

Hmm, I only got to see the X-Box part of E3, so I missed this. It sounds cool, but it seems a little too soon to bring out ANOTHER DS don't you think? I'm confused about one thing though: When you say "3D capabilities", do you mean 3D-Movie pop out of the screen at you 3D, or Pokemon Platinum Reverse World 3D Effects 3D?

Feel fre to take the quiz here

I believe it's "pop off the screen 3D" but I could be wrong.  And as far as the game selection goes... excellent.  In my opinion Nintendo went downhill after the GameCube.  It will be excellent to be able to play my favorite classics on the go.

.
It's 3D as in "pop-out of the screen 3D movie style but on the go and without the need of ridiculous glasses".
Also, you have to remember that strictly speaking, this isn't a DS. The DS, DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL are all, strictly speaking, the same console. Sure the 2 DSi's use a different OS, have cameras and DSiware that the DS doesn't but the main games for use with the system are standard DS games. Thus the DS handhelds so far can be compared to how there's a GBA, GBA SP and GameBoy Micro or how there are slimmer releases of some home consoles.
The 3DS however is the real next handheld (which is why I kept my normal DS and never upgraded...I wanted to wait for the next real generation), just as the GBA was a leap forward from the Game Boy Colour, although both will retain backwards compatibility.
