Kateri dropped the vest in the corner, letting it thud against the floor, before walking back to the head of the bed, folding her arms and leaning to the wall. Her eyes went from the fiery dragon, to the little cat sitting at the foot of the bed, and looking nervous.
"Well, I guess this is quite interesting to all of us," she said, running a hand through her hair. "Now we all need to explain who we are and what we're doing here, but I think I should start, for your sake." She nodded over to Vuranin, the pushed herself up off the wall and put her hands behind her back. "You're not going to like what I'm about to say, but please don't turn violent. That won't help anything. The reason Chronin is here, with us, is because I took guardianship over him after his father was killed in an unfortunate security incident, not long after you disappeared." She looked down at Chronin's sleeping face, then to Vuranin, gauging her reaction.
"Oh thankyou," Seema said as she took Kitt's hand, and stood up off the canteen chair in an effortless and elegant manner, smiling a little at his gesture. "Come with me. Your training partner should be ready by now." Letting go of his hand, she headed off into the corridors, with her huge and soft tail swaying behind her. After a few turns, and some double doors, they entered an impossibly large hall, stretching wide like a hangar bay. In the centre stood a figure clad in a tight fitting body-enhancement suit, connecting to his form. The figure watched them enter, and shook his limbs to ready himself.
Seema stopped at the entrance and stood beside Kitt. "All you have to do is immobilise him. Try not to kill him, but don't underestimate him. He's a dangerous man." Her voice was soft and smooth, and formed to her smile.
Above Yu-Razul, footsteps of heavy boots thudded and stomped, as mercenaries searched around.
"Hey, he bust open the maintenance hatch," one of them said, followed by the sound of someone climbing into that corridor, and flicking on a flashlight, looking down into the shadows. Yu-Razul could see the light spill through gaps in the panel that hid him, scanning across from side to side. "He's not here," said the mercenary, who crawled back out onto the main deck of the craft.
"We can't wait here forever 'cause of one guy. Do one last search and then we leave. If we're late, we're dead."
"Yes sir!" The footsteps intensified, with people rushing around, pulling objects away, searching in every corner. Eventually, the sound of the explosives behind rolled onto the ships filled the dragon's ears, followed by a final call of
"The area's clear!" The engines began to heat and hum, churning into a roar, heating up the maintenance corridor and the silver dragon hidden inside.
Outside, the lone female desert hare looked up from behind her mask, and saw the pack of ships lift and burn through the atmosphere, out into space.
