The voice through the comms roared back at Leo.
"FOXALIVE, please refrain from firing weaponry near a capital ship. We do not require your assistance!" The transport raced past the new debris, weaving past the mess of smaller asteroids. Any that hit, vapourised on impact. Up ahead, a enormous carrier bearing the GA mark warped into the nearby space, watching as the Beast swallowed vast chunks of metal, consuming it all as it crawled towards the transports.
Dougie winced as Annie left the ship, and he grumbled his way to the cockpit, where Keiron sat in the pilot's seat, chirpily flicking switches to prep take off.
"You'd best hold off on that for a little while," Dougie said, leaning over the back of Keiron's chair. The serval looked up and kissed the dingo before flashing a smile.
"How come?"
"I let her walkabout, probably saying goodbye to people." Dougie looked away with a frown, and gritted teeth. "If she doesn't come back in time, i am in so much trouble." Keiron grinned and reached up to stroke the dingo's cheek.
"Aww, you're so nice sometimes."
"Shut up." Dougie burst a little laugh and pushed himself off the chair to stand and look to the side, through the window into the hangar. "I'm too soft for this job," he said, giving a little sigh. He looked back to Keiron, who was staring at him with knowing eyes. "What?"
"You want to ask that question again," Keiron said.
"Well what's the answer then?" Dougie folded his arms, with an almost challenging look to the cat. Keiron shrugged.
"Depends if you want to retire in Alderia or Raven's Nest. If we quit now, we're headed for Raven's nest, and you're no good with the cold," said the cat with a chirp in his voice. Dougie sighed and looked back out the window, spotting Annie standing and waiting for her two boys. He sighed again, while Keiron swivelled round in his chair and stood up, walking behind the dingo and putting his arms around him. "Stop sighing." The both of them looked out, watching their VIP. "How long did you give her?" Keiron asked.
"Half-hour."
"See, you're not that soft," Keiron said with a smile. "Normally you give them a whole hour."
"Shut up."
"You can't know anything until you try it out," Reggie said, before the datapad beeped out, interrupting them both. He gave a sideward glance to it, and the message Blaze relayed, and then gave a nod. "Okay, let's get going. It's probably to do with those justice people she met this morning."
"Alright," David said, pressing in the commands and letting the engines roll into life, letting off a sweet hum.
Asia looked between the two of them. "Two days of that military food? That stuff is messed up." He winked and led the way inside the house. It was a simple two floor building, with sandy walls and thick rugs all over the floor, through a hallway into the living room. The room had two sofas and a small coffee table in the centre with assorted fruit, and in the corner, beside the fireplace, was a screen, showing old TV shows. "Please, take a seat," the rabbit said, and Tabby gestured for Chronin to follow to sit, while Asia headed back out the room to the stairs. "Afgha!" he called out. "Tabs' back, with a military friend!" Unintelligible mumbling could be heard in reply. Asia walked out to kitchen, then brought into the living room, a tray of meat. "We were saving this for the visitors, but they'll be here any minute now." He laid the tray on the coffee table, then sat down on the opposing sofa, facing Chronin and Tabby. "So," he said to Chronin. "You known Tabs long?"
Then, Tabs' and Chronin's datapad both beeped wildly. Pulling hers out, Tabby read aloud.
"Attention all military personnel, extra-dimensional forces have destroyed the capital sphere. Any person who comes into contact with such a being is ordered to fire on sight. Repeat, extra-dimensional forces have destroyed the capital sphere. Any person who comes into contact with such a being is ordered to fire on sight."
