It's nothing big. Just that Triffids have infested some of the planets, including those with a previously uninhabitable atmosphere. They reproduce quickly, perform rapid terraforming on dead planets and evolve and adapt faster than almost anything else. However, after about 30 years of dealing with these plants, the military are more than prepared to send in special squads that deal with these creatures, and if the planet does not have any indigenous species, they have a gas that kills them all as well.

Tangletail, Torching falls under "if the planet does not have any indigenous species", and is thus not a really practical means of killing plants unless there is nobody on the planet to complain about the sudden 'sorched earth' policy on their planet.
