I would much rather live a life of hardship than live in a life of laziness and synthetic comfort
That is a completely different question than whether one likes being human. Consider house-cats: lazy, synthetic comfort, and not human. So, while I agree with not being crazy about being human -- we seem like a particularly poorly designed species on the whole -- I don't agree about that stance on hardship versus comfort. For one, it makes no sense to lump laziness into that dichotomy. It's perfectly possible to have synthetic comfort and not be lazy.
Also, if you're serious about preferring hardship to comfort, why not go out and join the Peace Corp or something? I'm sure there's lots of ways that one can find to experience hardship if one really wants to. Experiencing not being human, however... That's harder.
