Which element would you bend? (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
« on: August 12, 2010, 10:00:54 AM »
Hello fellow furries :)

I watched The Last Airbender yesterday and I thought it was good, despite its bad reviews all over the interwebz.
So, if you could bend any of the 4 elements, which element would you choose and why? :)

Hmm, I would bend Air, because it is everywhere, i could just use it anytime i want without the need to look for a source or generate it myself.

Can't I just be like the Avatar and bend them all?
No?
Well then I'd probably choose fire. My second choice would probably be water.

And the reason the movie got bad reviews is because M. Night Shyamalan didn't follow the TV series as closely as he should have. He had the actors pronounce the names differently because he said the show creators had them pronounced wrong. He made it so almost all firebenders (except a rare powerful few) have to have a source of fire to bend (which isn't so in the TV series). He changed how things went a lot (like how Aang is supposed to make this huge fish thing out of water that he's inside after the Moon Spirit is killed while the moon is red and attack the ships, but he made it so he just makes this huge wave to threaten the ships and doesn't attack at all) and he rushed the whole thing. And believe me, I know that parts have to be cut out to make the movie an appropriate length, but he just didn't do it well.

But I'm not saying that I didn't enjoy the movie, because I did. It just could have been better.

Water. There's just something about that element that I like.
I want to watch the movie, I just don't know when I'll get the chance. Still though, Prince Zuko with HAIR  o.O , and I'm guessing no Toph?

He had the actors pronounce the names differently because he said the show creators had them pronounced wrong.
Eastern/Western pronunciation of nouns differences. Aa/ah  I/ee  yoo/oo, things like that.

He talked about that change in an interview. He kind of felt it made firebenders overpowered when he was watching the show.

What!? No Koizilla!?!? :o  That's a major disappointment for me, and a bit anticlimactic.

Feel fre to take the quiz here

There's going to be more than one movie. So no, there's no Toph in the one out right now, but she'll be in the next one (she should be anyway)...I wouldn't be surprised if he made her not blind though. lol.
And yes, there's no Koizilla. I was very disappointed. :(
I don't think it really matters if he thought it made the firebenders overpowering in the show though. He's making a movie from a show so he should follow how the show does things and not change things because HE thinks it should be different; if he was making something from his own mind and not off of a show, that'd be different. But that's just me and I'm not experienced in that business.

LOL, who cares, they should STICK TO THE SERIES, and casted more asian actors for the main roles. I could totally see myself playing Zuko 8D

Well, for today's puropses, earth, because then you could also metal bend, and half of everything is metal these days.

Oh, but if he's an air bender, couldn't he have just made a bubble of no air around the fire lord and suffocated him?

How is that in anyway related to this thread?
No offense, but you shouldn't even bother posting if it's not a direct reply to any thing mentioned here. Seriously.

Even if he isn't really saying anything completely on topic, that's no reason to be mean to him about it and saying "no offense" doesn't make it any better.
