Ive had a problem this week where i cant enter steam.


I click on the icon in my dashboard and the click is recognized...but then it just loads and then stops working without any sort of notification.


The day before i had an error in which steam loaded in a windows dialog box and said something wasn't on my computer, maybe i uninstalled something accidentally when the PC reset ..maybe its just got an error that will be removed in an update. can anyone help me out?

You'd need to tell us what the error message is.

Open task manager (I'm presuming Windows, but overall it should be pretty much the same) and see if there's a steam.exe running. If there is, end the process and try starting it again. If not, or if that won't work:


make sure steam is definitely not running
make a backup of the location steam is installed to (copy it somewhere)
make sure you don't lose the backup
delete everything except steam.exe and steamapps in the original steam folder
open steam

reinstallation always seems to work. if you play games with a lot of DLC, back up the game folders in the Steam/(your username) folder onto either a flash or Ext-HDD before you uninstall Steam and just place them back AFTER you reinstall Steam AND the game.

After reinstalling the games, pause ALL downloading, and then move the folder for the game from your backup into the same folder it came from. After that, restart Steam and it won't try to download what you previously had.
