I think it's because the fandom is more accepting of people who are "different" (in terms of what society deems normal). I don't believe there are more homosexuals in the fandom, I believe that people are just more open about their sexuality in the fandom since we're all so much more accepting than the rest of society.

Vee is right.  Furries are generally more accepting of people than today's regular society.

I once read an article on the fandom that claimed that the fandom "lowered the walls of social expectations" meaning that people can be more accepting of other sexualities. I think it's true

Well I dont mean more homosexuals than straight people, but a larger percent of the fandom is homosexual than the percent of homosexuals overall. But i agree with you, Its easier to come out in the fandom than in anywhere else. It seems to be teh same way with the Anime fandom.

I agree with Vee.  Who knows how many homosexual people fake their sexuality on these surveys.  You probably only see more in the furry fandom because we're less prejudiced than many others.

Maybe it's psychologically related.

There are often a lot more straight people in the fandom that you might think. They just aren't usually as vocal about it. Not that it's a good or a bad thing, just how it is.

But as for fandom vs. general society, I agree with Vee.

This is such an interesting topic..  I agree with all that Furrys are more accepting.. Wish more people thought like us..
Quite a few of my friends know I'm bisexual.. The guys usually say 'please film it' "/.. And the girls instantly think I love them.. Neither being a good reaction..  I don't know what anyone would say if they knew I secretly wished I was a gay guy.. That's actually the first time I've admitted that!
The world is such a horrid place!!!

Simple. The furry fandom, and the internet in general, is formed by LOTS of VERY different people. Furries in specific tend to be more open-minded about sexual themes (in case it wasn't already obvious). Society on the other hand is led by trends and the necesity of acceptance through the method of 'going with the flow'. That means anything that goes against the popular culture is 'uncool', 'weird'.

'Uncool' I can sort of accept from society, everyones trying to be like their favourite popstar and follow fashions etc "/.. No one knows how to be their own person!
But the term 'weird' really gets my back up!! Why?!  If were in love and happy, does it matter where it is??  In some places its actually still illegal to be gay!! How can you make a law about love?! More people should think like us, the world would be a better place! :( x

At the end of the day, in general, furries are way more accepting to those society throws out. If I hadn't joined the fandom I'd still be the depressed homosexual teenager I was before...
Am I back? Quite possibly.

Not wanting to argue about being gay or not, I'll just say some people are more open minded than others. We are bound to our human way of seeing the world, and each person develops a different vision of it. Guided by instinct and the curse of self-awareness, we sometimes derail from what was was meant to be. And then again, who are we to say how things are supposed to be? An open mind is something most of society lacks. In my personal view, rather than being bothered (though sometimes it does get under my skin), I pity those people.

Thats true. Tbh, anyone who can't take the fact people are different are worse than those who are different themselves.
Am I back? Quite possibly.
