i first noticed that i was bi in grade 7 so i think around age 12

thats good that you don't have a problem with it if there where more people that accepted people for they way they are the world would be better place. although iam bi i am more for girls then iam for guys. when i get marry( iam only 19 no mate yet but still have a long time for that)  i hope my mate is as cool with it as every one here is. i was kind of surprised that every one here was so open minded about others.

Please remember that this thread is about why it seems that homosexuality is more common in the fandom than in general society and not about when people came out as gay/bi/lesbian.

I don't think you should. I don't think ANY fur should. I think society should accept all furs (Sometimes just the mention of the word makes some people cringe and say 'That's gross.' I know from experience.) and their sexual orientations. Thirty years ago, it wouldn't matter, because people would have the sense to know you're a good person and toss aside the fact you're a fur and are gay, bi or lesbian. I've had to hide being a furry from everyone but my mom and my friend Matt (Both of whom don't care and like me for the person I am), but I've had to hide it from my dad. I'm straight, but I think he thinks of stereotypical furs as gay and he's strongly against that. Why is it that everyone thinks having a different sexual orientation is strange?  :?
I paraphrase Winston Churchill:
May God have mercy on my enemies who think I yiff, because I sure as hell won't!

I think that it's because people here are generally more accepting than other groups of people.

@ sir crocodile

being a furry has nothing to do with who your sexuality, my parents know aim a furry o but they don't know to much about it( they wont let me where a collar , but i do when iam a lone ...dont have ears and a tail but iam going to get them ) . most of the furry Ive talked to that are not str8 tell me that they hid it from there parents, so i guess that we provide a safe place for people who are not str8 to express how they feel with out being judged

Well actually I'm not Bi I am Pansexual but usually people don't see a difference. But to me it's very different than being Bi. ^_^

My answer is generally similar to that of a lot of people here; because we're an affinity that's a little different from the societal norm we're more accepting of other people despite whom they are ;). And yeah, if you're wondering about mine-look at my siggy ;).

Outside on a winter's night as the rain begins to fall
There's a chill in the air and the howl of a wolf while the rain beats at the door
Seven kings will ride on the wind up towards        the mountains high
And the only sound that will break the air is the warrior's bitter cry

I guess that makes sense that the furry demographic is more accepting of these things than non-furries, but I always though it was because some furries where hot or something and turned people into different sexualities because they felt attracted to it. I mean, I'm totally asexual in real life, but I've found a lot of furries attractive, mostly male ones.

With Internet anonymity, people can be open about their sexuality without real repercussion, and homosexuality is far from the weirdest or most controversial thing floating around online. They just get less shit for it. I see it in a lot of online fandoms, really.
