1: It is called Soul Wavelength, and it is not ones life force, but rather the fountain of one's power. It can be considered part of your life, since if the soul ruptures, you die.
2: Depends on if your character is a demon, witch, or rogue meister/weapon. There is only two to three cases where a Weapon didn't require a Meister, and all of them are strong enough to be considered broken.
3: A demon's visibility is dependant on their situation. Chrona's black blood demon was easy to hide since he was a manifestation of her blood, but the Kishin clown stood out horribly because he was a product of madness.

It's Soul wavelength. It's like...Well...In a nutshell it's the wave length of the soul. Not sure how to explain it. But think...Like when someone says "We're on, or not on, the same wavelength."

If you're at the academy, yeah. I mean...It's not a requirement, but it's advised if you're a Meister. Or a weapon for that matter. Otherwise you can't really fight...Though if you're a weapon, you can, cause you're a weapon. But yeah...To cut my confusion short; Not a requirement. But highly advised.

Some demons are more noticeable than others. Some look big and scary and some look like humans.

I thought wavelength was a measure of a soul's strength, since a soul is said to be torn apart if the power, or wavelength, is too strong for the soul itself to handle.

One of the meister-less weapons died because their own wavelength literally tore the soul apart, leaving an empty husk behind.

I'm sorry for going fan-boy, but I really like soul eater... :'(

As far as I know, no. They don't. Assuming you mean like a weapon partner. There might be some, with certain circumstances...Kinda like my character and black blood. Also, yeah, I used Bloody Needle. Crona can't do anything about it. 'sides, not like there is much else to call it. :V
