Ahh, I wanted to anwser, well still sounds fun!

1. What level of furry do you think of yourself as?

If I had to be a level I would be a medium - high depending on the day

2. Why do you do this furry stuff?

Because to me its fun, cute and some furries are smexy

3. What kind of animal do you feel yourself to be? and would you rather be this animal than a human?

a pitch black wolf with purple ear and tail tips. I would, but only if it was in an Anthro form

4. Do you believe yourself to actually be an animal?

No, well yes, because humans are animals

5. Do you have any relation to real animals?

Umm....I get along with them well and like to play with them

6. What is your average day like? (job, family, school, computer, etc.)

Wake up, School, Home, Computer, Shower, Sleep.
however on the weekends I dont sleep sometimes, and sometimes I throw in random things

7. Do you feel that animals and humans are one in the same?

Yes

8. In regards to your animal, what do you do in your spare time?

I day dream, and draw him, and designed a hoodie after him

9. How do you feel about the sexual appeal of the furry culture? even more, how do you feel about the sexual relations between people in animal costumes?

I feel that yes, some find it strange, but is it any stranger then a man and woman playing BDSM, handcuffs, sex in public? Not really, sexuality is part of humans, no reason to think of it as bad. I personally, wouldn't do it, but I know some people do and that is their choice, it is not my place to judge others at all :)

10. What is the difference between wearing an animal costume and a Cosplay?

The difference is that cosplay is USUALLY an anime or show character while, wearing an animal costume can be cosplay but can also be done for just fun or other things

11. How do u feel about the criticism toward you and your culture?

I personally get a bit angry, especially if they will not listen to reason. OR will not educate themselves

12. What do you do at these conventions?

I've never been to one

1. What level of furry do you think of yourself as?
There isn't really much of a leveling to it since there isn't much requirement. I'll say 42 and hope you'll find that good enough.

2. Why do you do this furry stuff?
It's interesting, and fun. Also I think the major reason is because the people are so awesome. Ultimately it's because I can be myself.

3. What kind of animal do you feel yourself to be? and would you rather be this animal than a human?
My fursona is a cat to an extent although like many others I have a complex system following it that involves a bunch of fantasy and magic. I suppose it would be interesting to be my character since it's magical and such but really I don't have any complaints about being human.

4. Do you believe yourself to actually be an animal?
No, not physically but I'm spiritual and such and believe that the universe is connected and unified and such.

5. Do you have any relation to real animals?
I love my pets, they're awesome. Although my dog is really disgusting.

6. What is your average day like? (job, family, school, computer, etc.)
I'm still a teen, but I'm not like the average teen. I have no job since I'm a teen, I spend plenty of time with my family. On the computer I'm usually drawing, viewing art, on sites like these, reading, etc. I'm a total nerd as well. I spend relatively little time with school related stuff. I don't study or anything because as long as I'm paying attention when the teacher is teaching I gets A's and I finish the homework rather quickly and usually before I leave school.

7. Do you feel that animals and humans are one in the same?
Yes, I'm not one who thinks humans are above animals spiritually or vice versa, or that we are all just basic science. I'm a spiritual dude and such.

8. In regards to your animal, what do you do in your spare time?
Do you mean animal character or pets?
For my character I usually work on developing his story and characteristics and/or drawing him.
In regards to pets I usually hold my snake, pet my cat or play with my dog. Also I sometimes go into pet stores occasionally just to see the animals.

9. How do you feel about the sexual appeal of the furry culture? even more, how do you feel about the sexual relations between people in animal costumes?
I'm not into that although I don't consider the "art" the same level of bad as bestiality. But I try not to judge others actions and just keep myself at a level I consider moral by my own standards.

10. What is the difference between wearing an animal costume and a Cosplay?
I usually see Cosplay to just mean accessories and the costumes to be full body.

11. How do u feel about the criticism toward you and your culture?
I think it's pretty messed up to an extent. I'm hated for just about every aspect of my life but I get really angered by how simple preferences can cause percentages of society to hate me. I wouldn't even mind if it was the basics of "Some of you are screwed up so I hate you", but instead people go to great lengths to find the most insane ways to hate someone; purposely twisting things and misinterpreting just to spread spite.

12. What do you do at these conventions?
I've never been to one, from what I see you just do similar to what you do on a place like here, talk to people, share art, etc. but it's corporeal to make things better.

always willing to help out:

1. What level of furry do you think of yourself as?

Don't know exactly how to answer this, but I'm kinda low on the scale.

2. Why do you do this furry stuff?

Expression mostly. Helps me calm down after a long day. Just like to image what it would be like.

3. What kind of animal do you feel yourself to be? and would you rather be this animal than a human?

Something between a wolf and a dog. I would rather be a human though. I just would like to be that animal everyonce in a while.

4. Do you believe yourself to actually be an animal?

not at all.

5. Do you have any relation to real animals?

There has been an animal in my family since I have been born. A house isn't the same without one...

6. What is your average day like? (job, family, school, computer, etc.)

Kinda between average days right now, but usually its: wake up, go to classes, chill out a little, do homework, play some video games, and maybe do something with my buds. what most would consider a normal day.

7. Do you feel that animals and humans are one in the same?

in some respects but not in others.

8. In regards to your animal, what do you do in your spare time?

draw him and imagine what it would be like to be him.

9. How do you feel about the sexual appeal of the furry culture? even more, how do you feel about the sexual relations between people in animal costumes?

I don't really care. Its what they do, let them do it. Yeah it kinda messes up the image of the fandom, but thats not really a big deal to me. personally Ive yiffed a few times to it before. but not really that much

10. What is the difference between wearing an animal costume and a Cosplay?

People have an animal costume that is THEM, cosplays are other people.

11. How do u feel about the criticism toward you and your culture?

I honestly don't give a flying rats A**

12. What do you do at these conventions?

I don't know, ive never been
Love is only a feeling.
A feeling of security, a feeling of happiness, a feeling of lust, a feeling of belonging.
A feeling we need.
We may think we can live life without it, but a life without it would be boring, meaningless, and depressing.
Love controls us. Without love, we are nothing. With it, nothing else in the world matters
Love is only a feeling.
A feeling that makes life worth living or dying

Hmmm Ok, I'll give it a go.

1. Not very much. I'm a furry and outwardly express myself as such, but my relative inexperience in the comunity leads me to believe that I'm not very furry. Unfortunately.

2. Why? Its an escape. I see the beauty of the world, of nature and of people, I escape my entrapment in one for the fusion of the two, forming a kind of volunteer schizophrenia, of sorts. A bit romanticised but that is what I believe.

3. I view humans as animals, and I do indeed feel human, but I represent myself as a canine, for I relate with them.

4. No, I do not.

5. I live and interact with dogs on a daily basis, and I'd be lying if I said that I didn't enjoy their company more than the company of my fellow humans.

6. I go to school and design theoretical devices (and ocasionally prototypes), and I write.

7. Do I feel rgar animals and humans are one and the same? Refer to answer three.

8. I'm not sure if I understand the question, but I gradually build the aesthetic of my persona. I represent myself therefore, as Aoren Deringer, and not as "myself".

9. If thats your thing, thats your thing, mate. Some people have their kinks and fetishes, and I daresay I understand it more than sadism.

10. Cosplay has a direct sexual orientation, fursuits do not. Although I do not own a fursuit.

11. I feel bad for those that insult us. And I hate them. Not because they dislike or insult us, but because of their xenophobia and blind bigotry, which cause more serious problems then vague insults.

12. I have never attended a convention, my family is rather against my choice in social interactions, mostly due to false representation of the community.

I hope I helped, that is all I have to add.

Oh my. i wasnt expecting this much turnout on my post haha.

Again thank you guys soo much. i cant thank you all enough on this.

I just want to clarify a few things though.

1. when taking this subject, i realized i had to throw all my previous thoughts out. i did have some previous thoughts but none of which were bad as some would think. But in reading your answers, my idea of this group is completely different.

2. I dont want to come off like i have any bias to the community. I wanted to get answers that were pure and from the source, so i figured ask the community, not knowing much, i just asked what i initially knew or thought i knew about the culture.

id like to ask one last thing then.

could u explain what it is to be a furry? i seem to be coming up with different answers from a few different places. from what im learning from your answers, it seems like its peopel that are interested in animals or anthro- creatures. am i right? any chance you guys can elaborate on this a bit?

Again, thank you all so much. and i will totally post the paper on this thread. it will be finished tonight so ill put it up either tonight or tomorrow during the day. Its 8:35pm here so probably by midnight ill be finished.

oh and one more thing. ill clarify a few questions.

1. how hardcore of a furry do u feel that u are? interested in the art - full on relations
2. by furry stuff i mean like why do you enjoy the furry community? what about it is appealing

What a furry is:
http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Furry
read the full article. there are more, and I know Puncia has something, somewhere. >.> I just dont want to go post-diving.

Hardcore furry?

In a way, yes. I am attracted to anthros, boys and girls, but not sexually.
I do draw anthros.
I dont draw yiff.

Appealing in the furry community?

The nice people, the fact no one is prejudice, and of course... the arts.

I have? I can't recall... XD

And I'd like to say that it's a great and brave thing you're doing, Yeahmkd. It's fantastic that you want to study the furdom and learn about it even if you're not a furry yourself. It's a great step away from the massive prejudice there is around this "subculture". Thanks for trying to show people what it really is about.

Hey thx alot Puncia :) Yeah this is mainly for school. But i do feel that everyone should have a chance to speak up for themselves and explain what it is they do and why without a group of people being prejudice. of course, it cant be avoided, but i feel that a fair look is what we should really have.

hey guys, im done with the paper. I have class in about 20 mins so im gonna post it up so your all the first people to see it.

I wanna thank you all once more. THANK YOU ALL!!! for the help in my paper and Thank you so much for all the info you gave me. Its fairly early in the day for me, so my grammar is quite off but as the day goes on, ill check in and see what you guys think :)

Before i put it up, i just wanna say that the opinions formed in the essay are completely mine and not of anyone else. The info i have used in the paper came from mostly you and some from the 3 sources i put up. Thanks again to Puncia for giving me tons of information on the fandom as well :) So here is the paper. Its not very good, but its a class im getting an A in. lol

I never really understood fetishes. Or even at that matter, where they even came from. Who in their right mind would find a foot arousing? Or be able to watch 2 girls, 1 cup without vomiting. I guess after a while, people become desensitized to normal intercourse and the Rigamortis of a lower human limb becomes just a little harder to get. But when you take a deeper look and look without bias eyes, you realize that these people are not freaks, they are just different. These people have something that I feel that today’s society lacks. Individuality. As I look at a nation whose inhabitants are slowly becoming as homogeneous as a gallon of milk, I become more thankful of things that make our nation unique. One example of which is a subculture called Furrys (furs for plural). A group of people that initially in my research I thought to be disgusting, but further in, I discovered was no different than most other members of society
A furry is a person who is generally expressing an interest in anthropomorphic animals and/or creatures. They find interest in animals and animals with human characteristics. Many furs feel a connection to these creatures and build what is called a fursona. This is the combination of the words Furry and Persona. This fursona is mainly depicted in art to show what these furrys feel the animal inside of them looks and feels. Many people draw, sculpt and even create fur suits to be worn or displayed at furry conventions. Other more extreme people in the furry community have an interest more along the lines of a fetish. Some furs will fornicate in their fur suits in almost a ritualistic or spiritual fashion. This idea is controversial in the furry community
Much of the furry community is particularly interested in the art. Many people find an initial interest in the furry community because most of their art work consists of animals, video game animal characters and animals they feel in tune with. For Canadian artist, Deanna Larsson, this means creating animal costumes. Herself, not being a furry, she sees the draw that many furs have to the culture. "Always have been. I love nature and wildlife. I went to college for biological sciences and my original idea coming out of high school was to be a person that looked at trees in the forest or went to a little island and counted bird eggs.” (Benesh-Lui 12). She initially owned an art gallery that now turned into fursuit making company. She supplies many furs with their suits.
Many other furs often participate in furry conventions wearing what they call “fursuits”. These are exactly as they are described in their title; animal suits that furs wear. These suits are sometimes made with real animal skin and fur to allow the user to really feel as if they are the animal. The suits also “commonly indicated dragons and various canine and feline species as their alternate-species identity; none reported a nonhuman-primate identity” (Privitera 1). These suits are also used in an activity that many furs feel to be controversial in their community. Some furs can feel a sexual attraction to the anthropomorphic animal that is another person and fursona of what makes a furry a furry. These are carried out usually in private, or in group orgies. Many furs believe this to have become a common stereotype of the furry community and discourage this perception of the furry community. These imagines have actually attracted media attention from magazines like Wired Magazine and Vanity Fair.
There are others in the furry community however that feel that they are superior to humans. Some furs feel that humans should not exist and that it should be animals. This in itself would eliminate human greed and human nature. This idea is highly controversial within the community as it brings the ideas of murder, suicide and genocide into play. Many furry communities often disregard the idea or condemn the discussion of it. Likewise, many furs feel hatred to the outside world. They despise humanity and what it has become. They feel that humans are no better of an animal, then animals themselves. They feel that humanity’s knowledge is a problem and should be exterminated. Of course, many furry communities discourage these thoughts. This however is not what most of the community feels and should not be associated with the main ideas of the community.
The furry community also undergoes much criticism. In the internet community, a furry is a derogatory term. As with most forums and sites, flaming does occur on the community. This is mainly because many people do not understand the fandom and what it really means. Most people assume all furs are mainly interested in the fetish rather than anything else. Many other people believe that the fetish is really and the fandom has to offer. This is completely false. In reality, most furs are normal people. They have day jobs, families, go to school and contribute to society. In a way, I feel that the furry culture is something this world needs (excluding a few rotten individuals). Not that I feel that today’s culture will completely understand why they do what they do, but they bring something that our culture does not. They encourage you to be unique and pursue what it is that interests you. Where many cultures today would tell you that questioning things is wrong, the furry community encourages its inhabitants to pursue themselves and what makes them happy. Whether it be art, or full on animal fornication, this encouragement is great. It allows people to be who they want to be and in my eyes, is the best

Again, Thank you all for the support :)

Great paper. There is only one problem, though. The near-sighted bigots who refuse to accept the truth, even if it bit them on their poison-coated hide. But then, there are the people who counteract that, whos only image of furs are those that their friends, family, and the media cook up for them. With this paper, though, it may show those not near-sighted exactly what the fandom is about.

But I stand by what I said, because this is a great paper.

1. What level of furry do you think of yourself as?
slightly above casual

2. Why do you do this furry stuff?
I like the creativity and originality of it all. As a writer I see a lot of potential for good stories in many genres. People in the fandom also seem to be themselves more than in real life.

3. What kind of animal do you feel yourself to be? and would you rather be this animal than a human?
I don't really 'feel' myself to be any animal; i'm human and that suits me fine. My fursona is a coyote because, well, I think coyotes are cool.

4. Do you believe yourself to actually be an animal?

no.

5. Do you have any relation to real animals?
Both of my parents were veterinarians, and we had 3-4 dogs and 6-7 dogs (and still do) while I was growing up.

6. What is your average day like? (job, family, school, computer, etc.)
Get up, go to class, eat dinner, study, cruise the internet, ask why my dorm bestowed me with crappy neighbors, sleep.

7. Do you feel that animals and humans are one in the same?
Yes; they both have the same emotions and basic needs. Humans are scientifically classified as animals as well.

8. In regards to your animal, what do you do in your spare time?
Post on the forum.

9. How do you feel about the sexual appeal of the furry culture? even more, how do you feel about the sexual relations between people in animal costumes?
I feel they have both been severely sensationalized, especially to the point where the outside world sees only that aspect, and not the talented artists, writers, craftsmen and all around good people in the fandom.

10. What is the difference between wearing an animal costume and a Cosplay?
I think cosplay is with videogame characters. Fursuiting is more an expression of one's individiualism.

11. How do u feel about the criticism toward you and your culture?
I think its all silly, and that the people who do it seriously are no better than pathetic schoolyard bullies who make themselves feel big by pushing around weaker kids. I think that, in the end, the fandom is a lot like the trekkie culture - people of common interest and enthusiasm come together to celebrate it. However, due to sensationalism, people can't just recognize it as a result of common interest.

12. What do you do at these conventions?
I haven't attended any.
