What are your hobbies?
« on: April 12, 2011, 04:09:02 AM »
What little things do you like to do alongside with your lifestyle? For example like collecting items, epic paper airplane designs, webcam dungeons and dragons roleplaying, or maybe just even gardening.

I myself like to:

-Collect knives
-Play old videogames
-Collect console and PC games
-Watch a variety of different anime
-Read stories about legends, myths, and the paranormal
-Go see movies at the local theater
-Play tennis, billiards, and ping-pong whenever given the chance
-Read the news on gaming, homebrew, and emulation development websites
-Collect first and second generation pokemon cards sometimes
-Daydream about stories and character reactions

- Go on forums.
- Watch baseball when my home team, the Philadelphia Phillies, are playing.
- Furry fandom.
- Listen to my metal.
- Hacking Super Smash Bros. Brawl
- Video games used to be a hobby but not anymore; I just play them when I'm super bored or get random urges. I don't play video games enough anymore to consider it a hobby.

I think that's it.

Other than the obvious stuff like play with the kids, work the dogs and spend time with the wife?

I am an outdoors guy. I love hunting and fishing. Was actually out this morning for spring turkey. For the life of me I cant figure out why we have a two bird limit when the population continues to explode. Pretty soon there are going to be so many that they will start having trouble again.

I also collect firearms. I currently own at least one of every type of ("standard issue") rifle and side arm used in the U.S. Military from present all the way back to the 1847 Muskatoon and in sidearms back to the 1849 Pocket Pistol. Dad still has a few that I need in order to complete my collection. But wont give them up.

I recently started up my German and Japanese collections, but I reckon my great grandkids will end up being the ones that complete those collections.

I also reload, shoot (obviously), am starting up a small side business making reactive steel targets. And on occasion teach defensive marksmanship at one of the ranges, as well as the CCW classes.

I recently purchased a 1972 Chevy half ton with my sons for when they are old enough to drive. But we just started.

I also love practicing the primitive skills, and used to hunt with primitive tools, but stopped that because they weren't ethical enough for me. Run too great a risk wounding an animal without harvesting it. Or having it take too long and suffer too much.

I also like to take the kids and wife out on the quads, and really want to get out from under this house (no we arent underwater on it. Just having a hard time selling it) and get a place with a little bit of land so I can get back into training and trading horses. Its a part of my life that Ive really missed since I joined the Corps.

I'm a computer geek at heart, and I love desiging and editing software.

I also am a poet and author and many of my peers have read my short stories. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback for it.

I'm also into designing necklaces (a hobby I've recently gotten into after seeing the necklces my mom has made). I'm currently trying to make a dog collar for myself that incorperates semi-precious stone beads.

- Photography
- Making chainmaille jewelry (just started it last month, but I love it and it might turn into a side-job along with making other random jewelry)
- Cosplaying (just started last year but I'm going to be doing it a lot more and work on my sewing skills to make my own instead of using found clothing or other stuff)
- Watching particular anime shows/shows on TV that I love
- Rollerblading
- Writing poetry (but I have to have the right mood)
- Reading books (usually fantasy or a random one about normal people)
- Drawing (or at least daydreaming about awesome drawings I'd love to do but won't do because I don't draw well enough for my ideas)
- Playing Pokemon
- Singing (I guess that would count as a hobby)
- RP (forum-style)
- Going to the movies
- Making up little stories in my head

I also want to collect weapons (just ones that I like) and I would like to take up archery (with a regular bow, not a crossbow or anything like that).
That's all the stuff that I can think of at the moment.

What kind of weapons?

And what kind of "regular bow"? There are hundreds of types and each offers something different. Now I assume that you are including compound bows in your anything like that category. But I would highly recommend starting out with one. It is easier to learn the fundamentals with it.

What kind of weapons?
Oh, quite a variety. I already have twin sai and I want pretty much one of each of some of the weapons listed in my profile.
Egyptian scimitar/Khopesh, like this -> http://www.odinblades.com/Gallery/gallerypics/Swords/Main/Khopesh/5.jpg
Double-sided axe, like this -> http://www.amkinindustries.com/public/upload/productimage/98-809-3.jpg?1265273474
Throwing daggers (I'd have to see different ones to choose)
Dual pistols (I'd have to see sets of them to know what I wanted), like this Commercial Satin Nickel M1911A1 Pistol - .45 ACP (maybe) except two of them -> http://www.imfdb.org/w/images/e/ed/NickelM1911A1.jpg
Short sword (once again, would just find one that I liked the looks of)

I wouldn't mind something like American-Indians used, just the simple ones.

My life out of school is computers. :P I would like to be a web designer but I've been lazy with learning things and stuff lately. I also do like photography but don't get out enough to take photos.

Ok cool. So you are wanting to go one step down from a compound bow to a recurve.

They are good bows for the most part. Will wear your arm out faster than a compound. But still good shooting. But a real pain if you are wanting to start out making them yourself. Better to go simpler if you want to actually make your own.
