Skintight Suiting?
« on: April 25, 2011, 07:23:03 PM »
Some mastcot-type fursuits are very nice, I admit. But I was wondering if there are any makers of skintight fursuits, that is ones that don't drape or hang, and are snug on your body to show off curves, etc. Would these have to be made of latex....or? I just feel that a tighter, non-mascoty fursuit would be the way to go for realism since I may look into getting a fursuit someday.

I think halfsuits work as a better solution than skintight oufits, but that's a personal opinion. Some people may like full skintight outfits better.

Since I've never made a fursuit myself, I don't know why exactly fursuits end up looking so "baggy" sometimes, but I'm sure some fursuit makers would be better at adjusting that than others. I've seen some around FA that fit the person's shape really nicely. Others... not so much. It's one of the things that's always kinda bothered me about fursuits.

Halfsuits at least take advantage of what you normally look like with clothes. Doesn't add a bunch of fur underneath the clothes or anything and make it look bulky. Almost always cheaper than getting a full fursuit too.

As long as you can get a good head/paws/tail, I think they look nice.

They're baggy so that you can have a full, normal range of motion while in them.  Fakefur fabrics aren't nearly as flexible as skin or other types of fabrics that we wear every day, so they have to be made looser else you will be restricted a LOT with motion, or you'll rip something.

Yeah, I can see how skintight suiting would be difficult. But the half suits sound like a great alternative, but personally I think I'll add extra fur around bare areas anyway, just stick it on or something (is there even such a thing, stick on fur XD) so I don't look silly with bare skin and fur too. Or maybe I'll just paint the bare spots, that'd be cool and I'd keep my shape since paint is more than skintight.

Also, I was wondering about paws and hair...do you comission a fursuit maker to add hair or can you buy a wig seperately and it'll still fit? As for paws, are fursuit paws skintight enough you can pick up things, write, drive, etc.?

you can use nylon or spandex as skintight suit material, if you wanted, and then have that under your clothes in combination with a furred partial, and that would cover skin.

depending on how the paws are made, they can either be loose in the fingers or tight.  I generally prefer slightly snugger paws because it makes it easier to grab things.  I can type decently in paws that I've made both tighter and looser, though.  As for hair, I've usually seen fursuit buiders make the hair into the head.

You seem to be almost aiming for something like an animegao kigurumi; skin tight bodysuit.

You may want to try using a kigurumi bodysuit as a base, and see how it works. You can find some places out of Asia offering them. Some animegao kigurumi mask makers offer them, but they are higher priced, and I am not sure if they are of any higher quality (or at least to justify experimenting with it).

or what i would do is find a maker that makes skin tight suits for actors (its in the google) and then from there using foamies or normal fursuit supplies make your feet hands head and tail.
the skint tight suit, depending how long you comparison shop (has been looking for one too) you can find one between $20-$80
thats the prices i have found (make sure you know your measurements or you will be stuck with a suit that is the wrong size)

as for foam, im personally working on selling some myself, if i ever get around to it i will sell you some. I'm getting them for dirt cheap and im thinking on helping new fursuit makers make awesome suits without breaking there wallets.
