Well, I guess I'll start with a list of my rigs.
First is a 10 year old dell Inspiron, that has been used and ABUSED.
It's got no battery, it's got dents and cracks, and a surprising around of JB weld.
I use it to run my light show, and that is all it can handle.

Next is a 7 year old dell vostro, POS new. It's still pretty usable and fast. Thankfully I got it free, the rule in the IT " department" it if it doesn't turn on, off the shelf at the annual Clean out its trash.
Department is a stretch, the server room is all the servers and crap in piles on the floor with half a dozen extension cords running into the ceiling! @.@

My next rig is a custom built one, don't ask me what's in it as iDK. Had it built, computers aren't my thing, but I still know that "box store" 'puters are POS.
S.H.T.F. Every other day!

Current:

Desktop:
Name: Indri
OS Windows 7 64bit
Motherboard: Gigabyte M68MT-S2
CPU: Phenom II x4 [email protected]
RAM: 8GB DDR3
GPU: Radeon HD 6870, occasionally overclocked up to 980MHz
HDD: 1TB x1
Input: DELL AT-102W mechanical kb (ALPS black switches), Cherry M-5400 mouse (ALL the clicky input devices)
Case: POS R series (four fan contollers, eSATA, frontpanel USB+audio)
Additional: Lightscribe DVD drive, RAID card.
Notes:
Made from parts of a friend's old desktop (mobo, CPU, one stick of RAM), RAID card required as GPU covers up most of the SATA ports x.x.
Named after a planet from Star Trek TOS

Laptop:
Name: Tio
OS: Windows 7 64bit
Model: Fujitsu Lifebook AH530GFX
CPU: i3 350M dual [email protected]
GPU: Radeon HD 550v
RAM: 4GB DDR3
Chipset: Mobile Intel HM55 Express
HD: 500GB x1
Screen: 1366x768
Additional: DVD writer
Notes: Really nice piece of kit for the £500 it was three years ago; very good keyboard; nice screen -if a bit low-res-; though the touchpad is tiny and the speakers -while loud- are tinny. Named after I kept calling it 'that one', shortened to 'TO', then to 'Tio'.

Laptop:
Name: Coal
OS: Arch GNU/Linux / Windows XP ( Windows almost never used)
Model: Thinkpad x60
CPU: Core Duo [email protected]
RAM: 2GB PC2-5300
GPU: Intel GMA 950
Screen: 1024x768
Chipset: Intel 945 mobile
HD: 320GB
Additional: Docking station with stereo speakers, DVD drive; extended battery; fingerprint reader; 3G modem.
Notes:
Named because the trackpoint pointing device is also known colloquially as a 'tit-mouse', this happens to be an old name for the coal tit, a small bird, hence: Coal.
The keyboard on this is one of the lovely older Thinkpad ones, so is very pleasent to type on, and, as it features a trackpoint, there's no messing about with one of those stupid trackpads most laptops have.

Other:
Diplodocus: An old desktop I was given by a computer shop which would have otherwise thrown it out, very old and heavy, hence the name. Has a Pentium at somewhere between 133 and 233MHz (Set manually in BIOS, but I'm not sure what's the correct setting, and haven't got around to looking it up), and 192MB RAM. Windows 95. Unused.

Old desktop (unnamed): Was my main machine for quite some time: Athlon XP [email protected], 1GB RAM, 1x160GB and 1x40GB HDD, had a Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB GPU, which fried itself, currently has a Radeon 7500 32MB in it. Windows XP . Unused.

Black Widow: Given to me by my old sixth form as they no longer had a use for it. 800MHz PIII, 512MB RAM, 80GB HDD. Named for the mating habits of the spider; had a lot of issues with this machine when I was using it: When you turned it on, something bad happened. Ubuntu. Unused.

Also have a broken (GPU dead) DELL Inspiron 2500, an HP with some sort of Celeron@~2GHz, a Thinkpad 600, and a Comppaq SLT 286 -a portable from 1989- lying about the place. Also lots of Commodore 64s and VIC-20s, a couple of Commodore Plus-4s, an Amiga 1200, a Spectrum 2+, at least one Commodore 16, and a couple of BBC Masters (One with an 80186 coprocessor board for running IBM software).

Well... this was long: tl;dr: I should get rid of some computers.

Edit: Ok, how do I stop it rendering the name of an operating system as an emoticon? x.x

I have 2 computers. A laptop and a desktop. I won't bother talking about the laptop it's good for nothing more then league and maplestory on the off chance I decide to play it.

My desktop is the firs computer I ever custom built. Basically, I had a computer before this one that could run... anything I threw at it. It had an i7 processor that ran at 3.4 GHz (I can't remember the model number), 8 gigs of ram (that I upgraded to 16 gigs), Nvidia Geforce GT530 (very outdated card but it ran everything like a charm), it originally had a 530 or something like that power supply but i upgraded to a 850 for future upgrading purposes, It also had a 1tb hard drive which I filled up and had to get an additional 2tb drive.

So that desktop failed. there was a short in one of the USB drives and when I plugged something into it the motherboard was rendered useless.Thankfully, my uncle was building a new computer at the time. so he gave me all the parts from his old computer. All I had to buy was a case, so essentially i got 4 years use out of a 1000 dollar computer, then paid 50 dollars for a brand new (he only had the parts for like a month) computer. All I had to do was buy a case because well. that was my choice, i hated the stock case that asus gave me.

That was a few months ago and yea, this thing is still running strong. It's not quite as powerful as my old one, I can't run all the games i used to (witcher won't even start) but until I get the money for some upgrades it will still be in use cause it does run a lot of what i play.

here are the specs of the new computer (some parts were recycled cause I had just bought them when my old computer died)

AMD A8-5500 APU @ 3.2 GHz

16 Gigs of RAM

2 TB hard drive (my 1 TB drive died)

120 GB SSD (OS Drive)

850 Watt PSU

and im going to be saving after my vacation for a 2 gig GPU

So there you have it. I got a good run out of my old one and learned a lot of new things from this build! I built the whole thing by myself using some youtube videos as guides (its really quite easy) the SSD just holds the OS and OS dependent programs as my uncle calls it, and the 2TB drive holds all my storage, games, and most of my programs. The thing boots up in like 10 seconds with that SSD even still today. But all in all its a pretty good machine!
