What many people seem to believe is that the furry community is a kind of... cult or religion, etc. It is not by a long shot. I personally feel that even furries seem to OVERRATE the fur fandom.
It is simply some people that like animals and animals with human like qualities. That's why fursuiting, wearing collars, roleplaying and everything else is
optional and highly individual.
But is this something you like right away...
Collars are often large and tight around your neck and most people aren't used to this type of accessory right away. It's the same with bow-ties and chocker jewellery. Are you used to the loss of movement and the tightness around your neck? Are you sensitive to this kind of thing?
Collars are also associated by most people with dogs (and pets) and leashes. Submission and even captivity. What you read into these things, whether you find them positive or negative, is up to you.
Or do u just kinda grow into it???
Some quickly adapt to changes and some take time. Again; it's all about what you feel both mentally and physically.
And that's without even adding the furry part in wearing said collar. It might give you a certain pride or make you feel closer to your fursona or animal self.
Or it may also make you feel a bit uncomfortable, knowing that people might spot it and mock you. Are you ready to be confronted or would you rather hide that you simply have an interest in anthropomorphic animals, an interest so highly overrated and blown out of proportion by the general public (and furries alike)?
My point is that it's not a big deal unless you make it so for one or more reasons. Enjoy your collar.
