Does Looking at Your Fursona Feel Weird?
« on: July 27, 2011, 12:43:11 AM »
Hey all,

So I've recently had my fursona commissioned by Sugarpoultry of DeviantArt, my favorite artist. My new avatar is a clip from that very piece. :)

What I wanted to know is if anyone else feels a little weird looking at their fursona. Because I know for me, every time I look at this piece, I really feel like I'm looking at myself. Like the picture is just a mirror reflecting not just my face, but my soul as well. Every time I look at my new profile picture, I see my own face, my own smile. Hell, even my own eyes and they're not even the same color!  XP

Have any of you ever felt the same way when looking at pictures of your fursonas?

I look at my fursona and see the being that I want to be, as a goal in life to become him personality wise, though I wont complain if I can manage physically too  XP

Well, I DO look at my fursona and feel like we are one, mainly because he is ME down to the finite details of personality. Of course, he's an Antro Husky and I'm human, but we are ONE (terrible reminder of a Lion King Song  XP). I have times that I dream as my fursona, and I have times where I imagine myself as him. I believe the best way to explain it is that while I'm human, Jacob Grey is me as well, and we are one person.

Well, I happen to like that Lion King song so I won't hold it getting stuck in my head against you. And I think your way of explaining it is perfect. I feel almost exactly the same way.

I kinda know what you mean. It doesn't seem odd when it's a picture I drew myself, any more than it would seem weird if I drew a portrait of myself. But when someone else attempts to draw my fursona, it always sortof gives me chills, since it's me through someone else's eyes, and it's always completely different according to who draws her. Or at least that was how it was back when I was Dander; no one has tried to draw Aura (yet). It's a pretty cool feeling though when my brain automatically places the label of myself on any picture of my fursona.

not at all.
as an author of many, many unfinished stories, I see my sona as just another character. one that'll probably be replaced much farther in the future, when my interests change.

Lol, none taken. It really has dawned on me since getting this commission that I am quite furry. :P

And I don't think your reaction is limited to illustrators (took me a while to remember that word.  XP), I think it's something that ALL artists tend to do. I certainly do it with my writing.

It feels very good Icy, very good indeed. That's the whole reason I came here in the first place. :)
