Dim Lane gave a sigh of resignation at the girl. He looked into her cell with almost pleading eyes before gave up and turned to the Queen. She frowned and turned away from Talin to look around the room. The guards shuffled about uncomfortable as her personal life spilled out. She scowled at everything.
"Everyone leave, now," she said. Her voice low and ridged with threat.
"Oh um," Dim Lane fluttered about as the guards, the Chosen and the officer filed out. "Oh but, your majesty, my assistant things it best that you exile the gentleman here, along with her."
"Why?" the Queen snapped at him and the guards hurried away even faster. "So the two can rampage everywhere doing who knows what?" The turned and glared at Talin through the door. "In the dead of night, you and her?" She froze. Her eyes flicking about as her mind raced. "That's not what I meant." She leant against the opposite wall of the corridor and slowed her breathing. Dim Lane twiddled his fingers and toyed with his feathers while he looked to the floor.
"Your majesty," he began. Tizzarath stopped him with a raise of her hand.
"A lot has gone on today. If only it could all be solved." Her voice went quiet, almost to a whisper that none could hear. "I wonder if I could solve it all. I can." She looked over at the raven who gave a quick fake smile. "You're interested in the shard right, and a woman of - sorry, man of knowledge, correct?" Dim Lane nodded.
"Yes your majesty, arguably the best outside of the Shard town." Energy wriggled through him as he rolled out the spiel on his ability. The Queen nodded gave a weak smile, while the rest of her face reflected thought. Deep thought. Soon the smile became genuine and she turned to Talin.
"Talin, you are what you are and I am what I am. Queens do not end up with violent criminals. But that doesn't mean that I abandon you here." She glanced back at Dim Lane and thought her words over, then stepped up to the door and peered through the slit at Talin. "The town are very suspicious and possibly dangerous. I cant let them just act without any knowledge of what they're doing. So I will exile you and your friend, and along with her master, you will find out what's going on. Do not stop them unless you absolutely have to. Freedom and autonomy are vital for our towns, so if I hear of any wrongdoing by you, it will not be under my name." She stepped back and looked over to Aria. "Both of you must know that this is not official in any capacity and you must not tell anyone that I allowed this. Do you understand me?" She looked at Dim Lane who nodded. He was shivering with anticipation at the idea of discovery. His wings almost lifted him from the ground.
The guard grinned.
"My name's Alex by the way," he said and scooped Listy up. "Here, let me carry you. You'll be just fine," he said and headed off through the city. A three storey, roofless building stood among all the single storey huts. Animal bones and ivy laced across its face, a beacon of life and death. When they reached the door a small red panda looked up at them in greeting.
"Good morning," he said. "What's the trouble?"
"This girl seems pretty banged up. She's trying to see the Queen, so haste would be nice," said the guard. The panda hummed and hawed, looking the girl over and prodding her; his expression turning more concerned.
"You're right. Traditional medicine wont be enough here, follow me, I'll take you to the Chosen." He turned and walked into the hospital, leading them past beds of the mildly injured and headed up the stairs. Alex turned to the girl and jostled her.
"We're going to meet a Chosen! Isn't that great. I've seen them but never met them before. How exciting!"
Little-Hands shook her head and turned to General Andreya Caisen's unconscious body. She placed her hands on the vixen's head, and this time without speaking, the process began again.
"I healed you using the fabric of Seeker, but I asked for permission first. Most don't ask, they just do. They take. She feels it all the time, being pulled and torn." She pulled her hands away and the General's eyes began to flutter.
Aman gave a twitch of his lips into a knowing smirk then continued on the road back home.
"You'll see my loyal friend. You will see, but just remember that it is only you who can do this. You are most well suited. Your wild and vicious mind is almost perfect." His tail swished as he looked to the sky where the sun kissed the horizon. "We should hurry or we'll be lost in the dark."
Chosen Akela tilted her head to the side as she examined the girl.
"Meredith, you don't feel well do you. You feel something missing inside, dont you? Like you don't even have an inside. Like it's all just a void."
