My mate is a Simurgh (pronounced see-morg), an otherkin of Persian mythology. She also considers herself a therian. However, ironically enough, she isn't Persian at all. She's Salvadorian. She's part wolf, cat and bird.

I've always considered myself very foxlike..very sleek, calm, with strange eyes, weird sounds, pointy ears, long fur, smart, sneaky, sly, quiet, etc. But your fursona can be whatever you want, even the opposite of your personality.

I have a spiritual connection to foxes, but again, I'll need to ask permission before I share that story

It's a skulk, who can't deny all this furry fox love? If it suits you, and you like it, then join us! If it's not you, then don't. But, as much of a hipster as I am I know how hard it is to not want to like something "popular." It's about YOU, not everyone else

The whole "choosing your species" thing is creepy, when you think about it. Finding, pinpointing, discovering, learning about sound fine in my head, though.
Maybe it's some kind of scientific instinct--choosing the outcome is evil, finding it is not.
You could just go for the first option you think of. It's probably the best one anyway
