It's a play on the sound of the words.

Oh, what I meant was how to make a sentence using "saw" in it to fit this riddle.
I was thinking maybe something along the lines of him breaking the mirror with the chair and something about
because he "saw" himself or something...

Okay, well, even though I'm still not quite sure how "saw" comes from "sore" since they don't exactly sound the same... I'll take Crusty's answer, since it was indeed a play on words anyhow and she was the first at being the closest.

The answer I was looking for:
The man looked in the mirror,
took what he saw,
used the saw to cut the chair in half,
used the two halves to make a whole and
climbed out the hole.

That may be true in the UK, but in most parts of the US they sound very different, hence the confusion.

Ah, that would be it. I thought it may have been something like that, but I didn't realize where you hailed from, Crusty.

A man was to be sentenced, and the judge told him, "You may make a statement. If it is true, I'll sentence you to four years in prison. If it is false, I'll sentence you to six years in prison." After the man made his statement, the judge decided to let him go free. What did the man say?

Ding ding ding! You got it!

He said, "You will sentence me to six years in prison", which means if the judge sentenced him for six for telling a false statement, the statement would be true, which means it deserved a four year sentence, and if he sentenced him to four years, then his statement would be false, and so he would have to be sentenced to six years. Rather than go against his word, the judge let him free.
