I've never really understood modern art, care to explain what is so great about this, or am I just a hopeless cause who will never understand these things.
modern art is a very strange topic to explain... my first thought was that when experiencing modern art and looking at paintings, one should focus on the emotions which are brought from the paper. for example;
http://www.tate.org.uk/collection/T/T03/T03977_9.jpgjackson pollock is probably the most well known abstract painter. this picture i've been to see several times and it utterly captivates me everytime. i can almost hear and feel rhythms... tbh, this painting is almost non-abstract to me, as i see this as a scene of a native tribal dance.
however, the problem with that explanation is... the keneth noland picture i showed in my first post is conceptualised to rebel against this very notion. his paintings are supposed to be completely non-emotional. but i don't care... i find his paintings perhaps even more emotional, because they appeal to my set of dominant emotions.
who knows? all this is very very very subjective. it does seem very difficult to understand but once you do, you start thinking 'how on earth did i ever not understand this?'
