Dad's Army/The Rear Guard
« on: October 18, 2011, 07:23:39 PM »
Dad's Army was the brainchild of Jimmy Perry and David Croft. Produced between 1968 and 1977, this was the first sitcom to be set in wartime. In further detail, the sitcom is based around the antics of the Home Guard, an army of part-time soldiers, in the fictitious town of Walmington-on-Sea. In case anybody is wondering, The Rear Guard was the US version of the show although only one episode was transmitted.
If anybody here is a fan, talk about it here!

Do you know what's funny? This is what the 'cast list' would be like if there was a furry version of Dad's Army!:

Capt. Mainwaring: horse.
Sgt. Wilson: wolf.
L/C Jones: fox.
Pvt. Godfrey: rabbit.
Pvt. Frazer: dog (West Highland terrier).
Pvt. Walker: weasel.
Pvt. Pike: squirrel.
ARP Warden Hodges: rat.

That's a difficult question to answer. I can say that, according to a conversation I had with somebody at ConFuzzled (2010), a horse would be a Captain, a wolf a Sergeant, a fox a Lance Corporal, the list goes on!

Two places of interest I would recommend to any Dad's Army fan are as follows:

Bressingham Steam Museum*: http://www.bressingham.co.uk/content/trains.aspx?id=32

Dad's Army Museum: http://www.dadsarmythetford.org.uk/museum.htm

*Bressingham also plays host to the Dad's Army Collection.

If that wasn't enough, I once visited Bressingham and yes, it did give me the opportunity to explore the Dad's Army Collection!
