ive noticed over  year of going to fur meets talking to furs and cons that there are alot of males in the fandom the, and there are very few females ( its not a problem ) but why is that ? what are your thoughts on this ?

well im not sure why but all i know is its what first caused a lot of furry's to turn bisexual (though these days there are many more reasons) but yeah its strange why there is very few female furs..

the amount of female ( biologcal)  furs i know in rl are 6 and i know over 60 male or have meet over 60 male furs in rl. the ones i know online are  around the same.

I still find that to be baffling.  I hang out with mostly male furries but I know *so* many female furries.

My though is that since the fandom is such an accepting place, that many men who are trying to find themselves come to the fandom (And often stay due to it being the place they discovered themselves), because of this, (and because very few women need help finding themselves, they already are quite accepting [not to stereotype] they don't exactly need help finding themselves) we have more males by majority.

Actually, its quite the contrary.
Female population is larger than male by a 1:1.2 ratio.

If we want to call furry a nerdy or geeky subculture, then it's one of many such places with a more noticeable male population. Keyword "noticeable."

it is a very odd thing... and i do have a somewhat strange reason which may or may not be true;

you kind of have this exact thing for any kind of subculture. you don't get many female metal-heads going to festivals, you don't get many female rappers or going to rap shows, you don't get girls going to re-enact viking battles or anything like that. i think it has something to do with identity, hence why you don't see many black guys at metal shows and things like that.

i know it's a very bizarre assumption, but i don't think that women feel so much of a need to cling onto an identity, because we live in a male dominated society.

who knows... this is just something i've created with my own imagination based on very loose information.

thats an intresting idea. but with every sub culiter there arent that many females in it. i think the only one thats equal is the aniame fans. gamers, like furrys are  male domnated

something to do with it is have you noticed a vast majority of people join the fandom in the first place due to the internet, and it could be males explore further out their comfort zone to try finding a new acceptance as many have said or whatever their personal reason and happen to stumble across it. i believe if more females were to come across antro art or sites there might be more female furs. from my point of view there seem to be more female anime lovers than men(could be wrong) and there are alot of manga that come close to anthropomorphic art

maybe its because guys generaly spend more time on the web surfing, where girls chat.
