*Dodges the first strike, but the second one wings his injured arm*
AAGGH!
*Falls to one knee and looks up at Otebon, clutching his shoulder with his hand after resheathing the knife*
RRGH...
*grins weakly*
Give up yet?

*Otebon smiles.


"Never."


*Leaps backward to the outside of the circle and inspects the furrows in the ground.


"I hope I got the binding runes right..."


*reaches down and activates the circle. A flash of light envelops all that is inside.

[Cifero Windtail]

*Snaps to attention about fie seconds before he touches the rune, draws his dagger, and frantically begins to carve something into the ground*
Come on...
*The flash of light... then silence. There is nothing there.*


(Wait for it.  )

[Otebon Albrecht]

(Well, to maintain the RP according to what Otebon would know as opposed to what is in parenthetical statements and I, as the poster would know...)


*Looks up to see what is bound within the circle.


"That's strange... unless..."

*Immediately stands and runs away from the circle.

"Please don't say he carved Xercali. Please don't say he carved Xercali. Please don't say he carved Xercali..."

*Otebon's mind ran along what may have happened.

The only runes in the circle were ones of binding. Nothing major, just to hold whatever was in the circle. If he wrote Xercali, that's an open invite to the Outer Planes. The flash wasn't black however, so the probability of that is small unless he wrote it in the fourth quadrant under the Yeteria rune. The circle was a binding circle. What could he have done? Bound light to make himself invisible? If so, it'll only work inside the circle. I didn't write any permanency runes...

*taps Otebon on the shoulder*
Nice try.
*waits until his opponent turns around, then punches him hard in the face, sending him flying.*

*Comes to a stop after skidding across the ground for a short while. Rubs jaw.


Well, that's the last time I write lines in the dirt as an alchemical focus...

"Just out of curiosity. What did you write? My runes were perfect if I may say so myself, especially as they were done through some fancy footwork. What did you change?"

*Grins at Otebon*
Where there are entrapment runes, there are ways to get the heck out of them.
*sheaths dagger and draws his keyblade*
Now let's fight.

"Oh most assuredly, no prison is without exits."


*Leaps to feet and resumes a ready stance with tonfa.

*gets out of stance*
Let's take a short break. You look pretty bushed, and I have to redress my shoulder.

(I've gotta get to sleep so that Santa can come.)

"Fair enough. Until next week then!"


*Bows to Cifero and leaves the arena.

*Goes over to a tree and removes the soiled bandages from his shoulder. It causes him a lot of pain*
  Aw, geez...
*Gingerly applies a medical salve and wraps a clean bandage around his arm*

A week has passed, and the seasons have changed. An early snowfall has dusted the leveled field outside of the squat residence buildings of the School of War. The sun has just risen to find Otebon out in the middle of the snow dusted field. He is focused as he slowly practices a sword form.


Every movement precise, every action defined, nothing faster than a crawl. Perfection is his goal.

*Cifero walks through the snow to the center of the field and draws his keyblade.*
Our practice session is still in effect.
*Gets into a stance.*

*Otebon holds the last stance for just a second longer before lowering the blade, a long, thin affair with a long tassel currently wrapped around his arm. He turns and smiles at Cifero.


"Nice to see you. Glad to see your arm healed up nicely. And as always, yes. I'm ready."



*Slightly drags his right foot in the snow till he rests in the stance form Cat Crosses the Courtyard. It's an arrogant looking stance, as his sword is point down and near his leading foot, but it is obvious to those that are familiar with it that it is a stance for balance in all directions.


"I believe it's your move."



(Going to try something new Cif. Forgive my verbose writing, I want to see if I can experiment with a new form of swordsmanship and how to write about it)

Sorry, I never attack first. I believe that it is more courteous to allow one's opponent to strike primarily.
