Althea closed her eyes while the dropship zipped over the battlefield and, even through the shielding between them and the sounds of the engine, she could hear the sounds of battle. That feeling of energy returned quickly. Through closed eyelids, she saw the drop light in the cabin turn green. With the speed born of practice, training, and no small amount of adrenaline, she prepped herself and her pod for a combat drop.
Within seconds, the uncomfortable feeling of gravity drastically increasing as the pod shot out of the belly of the Pelipper.
They were now deployed slightly off to the side of the main enemy advancement, a perfect spot to flank and set up an L-shape flank. The original idea was to see if they could push the attackers into a smaller area so the UPF's fire could be more concentrated.
Althea quickly extricated herself from her pod, tore the rifle off her back and began to run. She ran to the nearest hill and placed herself down upon it. To her left the fortifications of the base stretched off into the distance. In front of her, light armor and assorted vehicles mixed in with infantry charged the defenders.
Putting an eye to her scope, Althea first saw a pair of UPF soldiers bunkered down behind a destroyed 23. They were doing very well protecting themselves, so Althea paid them little mind, or at least she did until one of the battle suits that had been stored here came into view.
They must be harder pressed than we thought, Althea thought as she quickly readjusted her aim down range.
Now to work.
