"The Federation has a unique set of draft laws. You see, each child, even those of political figures, is born a Civilian. By the time they reach the age of 18 they can choose to apply for Citizenship which gives them the privilege to vote. This is where the draft comes in, as part of the Citizenship program you have to either enlist in the armed forces, the mining industry, or any other noteworthy hardcore civic action. If you can prove that you're intelligent enough to weigh the variable and vote then we'll give you the green light and pass you up for a Citizen. This system is basically foolproof and it makes damn sure that individuals who can do their jobs get elected to office. In fact, today marks the 19th anniversary of my years in office. I've never done anything wrong and people never get tired of me. They're too afraid of upsetting the whole Federation with someone new, which is why we have the a tradition of Monarchy we have to uphold. It's limited, of course, but even still I wish we could do without it," President Rivers continued to explain, "Go ahead May, you can explain to our guests about our science and tech. I'm gonna hang out with our kids."
"Alright! Can you play on my profile? Level up my Recon class will ya?" May asked.
"Of course sweetheart!"
"Warzone 3, just came out. I love DICE games. Well then, as you can see, we have an affinity for technology. Our science programs are mostly handled by non-military agencies. We have strict and safe regulations and forbid any form of biological weaponry. One thing though: since we can survive radiation that would outright kill other mammalian beings we have less strict rules regarding atomic use. Of course, we have a nuclear stockpile, but we only use them as antiship weapons and tactical strikes. We never kill civilians on purpose and we have laws against that. And since we're a socialist nation our medical sciences are extremely well off. What else?," she paused, "Well, there's the military. As you may have noticed on the battlefield we favor projectile weaponry as opposed to directed energy weapons Lylatians use. Railguns, guided missiles, caseless bullets, that sort of thing. All our land vehicles are made in my homeland, the Luna Isles, and they use electromagnetic antigravity panels instead of wheels and tracks. That's why we never use surface boats, a big old Type 37 Zorua can still go top speed above the water, and the plasma shielding helps our vehicles float by trapping air. Although we still somewhat use a surface navy for home defense."
