In theory, but being called names and what-not hurts. If I just ignore them and don't stand up for myself, they're practically getting away with every insult they throw at me. Like if they call me retarded, and I don't defend myself by saying why I'm not retarded, then I might as well be retarded.

I have been in those kinds of situations. I still ignored them and didn't let them bother me, and they just quit trying. By retorting, you are likely to feed the fire. As for pride, well... I never valued that as much as I valued peace and a solution to problems.

Me, I would rather stand up for myself than take the abuse. Cause for me, taking an insult and doing nothing about it is like taking a punch to the face and doing nothing about it, not even calling the police or getting help, just sitting in a corner and crying about it.

We fight, we recruit, we are the anthropomorphic army. FDF forever!

Haha, this is what I especially hate about society. It's either you're part of a collective that lets media think for them or you're an outcast. I'd rather be dead than cool, honestly.

it's gonna happen no matter what. the human psyche is designed to discriminate against out-groups (i.e. furries). it's deeply ingrained in our subconscious :P

in my opinion you don't really need to explain anything. you can wear whatever you want and you shouldn't have to answer rude questions

Like I have said before. Most People see it as a sexual, school is not the best place to where one.  If you are perparing to go to University or Collage and need a recommendation form your teachers, you don't want this to be a part or written in it.

Discrimination I think can be tied to evolutionary roots, where, if we saw something we didn't completely understand we were afraid of it, or immediately acted hostile, (such as a new animal or a man you've never seen before). Of course, we no longer are cavemen, these traits still are embedded into our way of thinking, unfortunate. I'd think that a way to get around it is to literally explain the entire situation and show people that being a furry really isn't that bad. Of course, there are those who don't listen, and are just blinded by their own sense of ideologies who refuse to change there belief, hmm... Not entirely sure what can be done about those people.

I agree, but one must realize its natural human nature to fear the unknown...

Our environment is changing quicker than our evolutionary traits, we no longer need to fear the unknown to as great an extent as we have had to before.
