And now to sound like a complete nerd.... Here We Go! ^_^V
Scientists have discovered and used mathematical laws to describe forces, for instance gravity. While each mathematical law works well on its own, they sometimes seem to contradict each other. For instance, in normal scales, gravity uses one law, but for very small objects, another law is needed.
It is usually agreed there are four important forces in nature:
the gravitational force
the electromagnetic force
the forces of strong interaction (Strong nuclear force)
the forces of weak interaction (Weak nuclear force)
The String Theory is a physics model that tries to explain these mysteries by connecting all those forces together. The theory is based on complicated mathematics and physics. If it turns out to work, it might explain or describe everything that happens in nature.
This may be a theory that can bring together other physics theories all at once.
Furthermore, it is one the few theories that could explain why there is gravity if it turns out to be true. It explains gravity through quantum. Yay Quantum Physics!
With traditional physics models, this was not possible.
Hooray for Wikipedia!
Is that enough of an answer for you?
Where would we be without Wikipedia?
