Red Seas

Katka walked quickly up to the helm of the ship, nodding to the crewmember at the wheel. Down below the deck, the rhythmic -thud-thud-thud- of the steam engine vibrated through the wood and metal, great clouds of black smoke belching from the funnel at the back of the ship as it slowly rose up into the air. Katka watched the take-off silently, one hand gripping the metal rail at the side of the ship.


Once the airship had climbed back up to a reasonable height Katka nodded again to the current pilot. As he swung the wheel around Katka slipped her glove off. The fur of her paw glinted a deep gold in the sunlight as she gripped the metal rail again and closed her eyes. The ship groaned and shuddered as the rate at which it climbed into the air slowed. The engines below slowed until they finally stopped, the only noise the rigging and the occasional groan of steel and timber.


Katka slipped her glove back on and walked down from the helm towards the captain's quarters. She let a small grin play across her lips. The ship was like a  large animal to her, a great steed of the skies, and she was learning bit by bit to control it... If it weren't for all the crew members that she had to talk to it would be perfect...

(Ga!  I've been buzy lately, so my posts have slowed down a lot.  Sorry.  Also, I have to go see that.)
 
Danny grabbed Scarlet's arm, stopping her.  "I can only heal one a day for severe injuries.  I'd kill myself otherwise, and I'd be of no use to you."  Her tail flicked, irritated.  This was not her plan.

Raia flapped hurriedly after the wolf, afraid to call out.  Her energy was so low, she was surprised she was getting even this much distance.  Her wings finally gave out within three feet of the airship, hiding her in the brush.  As they took off, she cried out helplessly.  "Please, come back!" she yelled, voice cracking and falling short on the last word.
 
She watched, tears running down her cheeks as the airship left without her, leaving her alone again.
 
(Yeah, I changed the name.)

[Gahh! Dang it Aldrea! Even I want to power save you now!  ]
 
*The three mages smile* "Thank you Joesph. These structures are indeed very beautiful, also very old. But still just as strong as the day they were built." *The five of them eventually reach the halls of testing. They arranged themselves in a half circle around Cifero and Cassandra.* "Here is how we will test you. One of us will reach out our right paw and it will begin to glow. You must strike it with the most complex and powerful spell you are capable of. Our magic will draw the attack in an absorb it, so no harm will be done to us. Cifero, since you seem the most eager, would you go first?" *The mage in the center causes his/her right paw to glow and reaches out. The other two back up."

*Scarlet glared at Danny and rolled her eyes.* "Your lucky Master has taken an interest in you, else I would not be doing this..." *She then approached Danny, got very close to her, grabbed her wrist and pushed her against the wall. She held Danny in her surprisingly strong grip, Then gazed into her eyes. Danny could see the malice and evil glowing deep withing Scarlet's dark eyes. Then smiled, and opened her mouth. What came next was too horrifiing for anyone to wish to comprehend as three entrapped souls that Scarlet had absorbed were forched out from her open mouth and into Danny's. Danny's head exploded with the wails and screams of three troubled spirits as they were forced into her being. All of their thoughts and memories began to blend with her's, causing untold confusion. Finished, Scarlet released Danny and said,* "There, I have gifted unto you three of the souls of adventurers I have ensnared over the years. Use them as power sources to fuel your magic and you will find healing to be a breeze. Also, try ignoring the voices inside your head now." *She sneered as she walked away.*

*As they passed by to the lower levels, Shadis managed to whisper to Katka,* "T- take us to the Isle of Vita immediatly. It is our only chance of survival." *He and Don then retreated to the lower levels. Once in the Captains quarters, Shadis entered but did not sit down. Don closed and locked the door behind them. He looked at Shadis.* "Out with it man! What in Oblivion's name is wrong with you?!" *Shadis looked up with him with conflicted eyes.* "I am sorry Captain, but it must come to this. I'm too weak to survive, and only a Unicorn's blood and horn can heal me now... Good by." *Don then realisised what Shadis was up to. He immediatly went to draw his sabre, but Shadis was quicker. He drew one of his shortswords and drove it deep through Don's chest, impailing his heart. His silverly grey blood sprayed all over Shadis as he fell limp to the ground. Tantalized by the blood, Shadis knelt down, and began to feed.*
 
[Think of me what ever you like, but it was either the fat old unicorn or the powerful ancient Umbral Wolf    Also, NO, Scarlet and Danny were NOT kissing!  ]

Katka gave a very small nod to Shadis, turning off towards the engine rooms, leaving the pair to go into the captain's quarters. She stopped just around the corner, ear flicking as she heard the door click closed. Surely it was not her business what the captain said to the Umbra Wolf... But her curiosity was piqued nonetheless.


As quietly as she could Katka walked back round the corner and to the locked door, deftly sidestepping the floorboards that she knew creaked. Sure enough, there was a gap between the where the double doors met. Just above the floorboards and large enough that you may be able to see through. Silently she knelt down on all fours and put an eye to the gap. If any of the crew passed by she knew there was no way to explain what she was doing, kneeling awkwardly, tail in the air flicking with curiosity as she squinted through the doorway.


No crew members would see her though, for it was only moments later that Katka saw the gruesome events unfold in the cabin. As the blade plunged into the captain and the hot blood spattered the deck she leaped back from the doorway. Caution thrown to the wind she backed away from the door as fast as she could, boots kicking at the floorboards as she backed herself right up against the opposite wall.


Breath fast and shocked, Katka reached a hand out for the nearest piece of metal, gripping one of the iron bolts in the hull. Directing a flow of magic through the metal into the ship she closed her eyes and sought the steam engines. She needed height, speed, something to get her away from what had happened in the captain's quarters. But the ship seemed to dance out of her reach, bucking and fighting like a horse that could sense her fear. Deep within the ship the steam engines gave a shuddering groan; the entire ship bucked to starboard and then tipped forward, dropping out of the sky. For a moment it fell, then with a tremendous smack it hit the waves. The prow plunged into the sea as two plumes of water sprayed up over either side. The ship righted itself with another spray of water and came to a groaning halt, bobbing slightly in the swell...


[I hear unicorn steak is best cooked rare    ... and I will judge you all I want for eating Mr. Don    ]

Danny struggled to get away, terror welling up inside her as the spirits forced their way into her body.  When Scarlet let go, she dropped to her hands and knees, shaking and panting.  Her eyes saw nothing but bright lights and it spun around.  A cold sweat stuck her fur to her body.  As Scarlet left, she gathered the courage to look up, hoping not to hurl.  "What... the Hell... did... you do?"

Raia watched pitifully as the ship flew out of sight, hoping against everything they'd turn back.  When they didn't, she gulped and closed her eyes, fighting nausea.  Four years of this Hell and she'd missed her only chance.  She took a deep breath.  No time.  She needed to get to higher ground, make a signal, something.  Find food especially.

"Well.... I don't know who Cifero is," Joseph said. "And I don't know many spells either... but alright..." He waited until the other two backed up, drawing his knife. Then, as soon as the other one held his/her hand out, he struck as hard as he could, his blade emitting a blinding beam of light as he struck forwards. "Sorry if I hurt you!"

[Shadis]

(Darn.  I was hoping they were.  )

 
Well, I guess they can if you want them too. I mean, romance IS allowed after all...

*The mage was hit with the full force of Cifero's strike, but the spell in it's hand compleatly negated all hard Joesph's attack would have done.* "Hmmm, not bad. Nothing too damaging, but already beyond and level of instruction we could give. You pass. Next, Cassandra. Please take his place and do the same."

*Shadis had already gulped down a gallon of blood before the ship crashed into the ocean. He opened his red, blood lusting eyes and glared at the direction of Kayka. He closed them and concentrated. Suddenly, Katka found herself faliing down into blackness that seemed to come from nowhere. She spun around for what seemed like hours. It was highly nausiating. Then, she found herself falling back into existance, and into the Captain's Quarters. When all of the blackness was gone, She saw Shadis somehow clean of blood, standing over her. Don's body was mysteriously gone. He spoke.* "You, metallurist. Why have you thrown us to the sea? Do you not know the manor of creatures that lurk within? If one found us, we would be at the bottom of the sea in a matter of minutes. Ignore Don and his Fatal "heart attack" and get us back in the air, else you may suffer a similar fate." *His voice carried a tone of a threat, but one he did not want to fulfill.*

cassandra looked a bit worried and summoned flame upon her hands and tried to make it burn but it simply went out upon contact with their hand. "shit! this crap is so freaking gosh darned freaking impossible! wht the heck is it i can d ocrap when im pissed but not normally!?" she punched the ground the flame winking out. "this is total bullcrap..."

Katka scrambled away from the Umbra Wolf, a hand automatically going to the pistol at her belt. For a moment her fingers hovered over the grip of the gun, her eyes flicking around the room. She nodded, then as hastily as she could Katka leaped to her feet and fled the captain's quarters, her tail flicking around the corner of the door in a grey blur.






Running up the stairway to above deck, Katka almost ran into the first of a group of crewmembers, all of whom looked to have been getting themselves back to their feet after the crash. Katka glanced around at all the people, her knees feeling weak and lightheaded. She had never seen someone die before, and the smell of the hot blood still remained. She clutched the railing of the ship to steady herself and muttered in a weak voice "Get the ship airborne, and make sail for Vita island..." A few of the crewmembers glanced to each other, but nobody moved. Katka felt as though she were about to throw up as she stared at them, growling "I said, get the ship airborne... Captain's orders..."


From among the crew a heavily muscled wolf, the Captain's first mate, strode to the front as he shouted "Alright you lazy lagabouts! You heard the lady, get the ship airborne now!" As the crew all hurried to their positions the First Mate turned to Katka, placing a large hand on her shoulder with a worried look in his one good eye. "Now then... Whats the matter, miss?"

Katka turned and leaned over the side of the ship, promptly throwing up. She couldn't get away from the warm sickly smell, and the vision of the blade plunging into the captain's heart. She turned back to the First mate, shaking slightly as she muttered "The captain is dead..."

[Shadis]

*Not a moment after Katka left the room did Shadis slam the door shut and nearly feint. He was still very weak and had used too much energy quickly hiding the body and blood with his shadow magic. Whincing, he summoned a shadow ont he wall and Don's lifeless but still warm body fell out. He grimaced and he began feeding some more, his wounds slowly healing and his dangerously low magic levels returning. He then felt the crew scurry about as the ship slowly started to raise up. He frowned. That damn cat had better keep her mouth shut. If only there had been an easier way... poor Don." *He mumbled as he grabed Don's horn, and ripped it out of his skull.*

*One of the mages put a paw on Cassandra's shoulder and her mind was suddenly filled with reassuring thoughts and encouragement.* "You have a great deal of strength, Cassandra. Your emotions are mearly out of whack and interfearing with your abilites. Let us help you, child."

she growls slightly  at the touch, and really dosent like the thoughts pressured upon her. "how are you going to help? this... this is not... i dont want anything altered...  too sudden of a change.. and everything will be thrown compleetly off.... please let go of my shoulder... you are jumbling my thought process...." she was starting to get dizzy from fighting the intrusive thoughts and feelings.

Scarlet left danny behind and went to see her master.. it.. it has been a while sence both of them were in their earthly bodies..

(And the crew better not try to kill Shadis until they reach the island, if that is what they plan on doing... kinda hard for anyone on the island to help you out if you're not near it.)

Joseph looked on in concern. "Hey, you heard her, stop messing with her mind," he said, stepping a bit closer.

The First mate gripped Katka's shoulder tight, staring at her. "What do you mean the captain is dead?-" He stopped as a crewman walked past with a length of rope, watching the fox go before turning back to Katka and hissed "What happened?"


Katka cringed, holding onto the rail to stop herself from collapsing as she muttered "He... He had a heart attack I think." She cringed again and glanced away from the first mate. "He had just ordered me to set sail for Vita island immediately. I tried to order the ship from his cabin, but the engines stalled and we crashed. Next think I know he's dropped dead. I swear it, John..."


With a sigh he let his hand slip off Katka's shoulder, looking out at the sea below them. The ship had already gained good height, the engines hissing and steaming away again as the ship swayed and lurched its way up into the sky. He glanced down at the young feline and nodded "Poor Don. We worked together a long time... I understand how you must feel, being the one who was there..." He patted her on the back, the friendliest gesture he could undertake as he muttered "I should probably tell you then, that the captain left this letter in my hands. He wrote it when we hired you." At this he pulled out a sealed envelope, handing it to Katka with narrow eyes...

J-joesph i can handle this my-my self no need to interject yourself into trying to protect me... *she moves out from under the ligers paw.* please refrain from doing that again... i dont want any of my emotions altered or.. or anything like.. like that to happen again... please. it is a personal reason...
