« on: January 07, 2012, 04:25:41 AM »
Just recently broken up... I can't get over it..
I feel like he was everything.
It hurts to even think about him...
its not his fault, he just wanted another to make him happy..
I need advice to get over him...

Normally, I don't give advice. With that in mind, please forgive me if the world explodes when you read this...

I recently broke up with someone that was very special to me and I can tell you that the phrase "Time heals all wounds" is true. You won't return to perfectly normal until you've had some time to get back to your life, set your world back together, and allow yourself to almost relearn how to live without him.

In the mean time, I suggest a good cry (if you haven't already), some quiet time, and distractions. Go see a movie for no other reason than you're interested in the story. Go eat a meal with friends. Do whatever you have to do to follow your hobbies.

Just get your mind off it and let yourself return to equilibrium. Don't try to force yourself back to normal. You'll just hurt more.

I hope this helps and doesn't hurt.

Well, the world hasn't exploded, so we've got that going for us...

I forgot to mention...

If you start feeling really bad and need to talk about it, do so. Don't let everything get bottled up. That doesn't stop the feelings, only push them further down the line.

Grab a friend a just start talking. The best person that you can speak with is just someone that will listen. They don't have to talk, just nod, say "yes" every once and a while, and give you a hug when needed.

We of the Forum are here for you. If you ever need an open ear, PM a friend. If you want a complete stranger, I'm always available to talk to.

Good luck.

Egan, I can very much relate to what you're going through.

2011 was an incredibly rough year for me. A good deal of that was because my girlfriend (now ex) broke up with me, and I had been planning on asking her to marry me. Never before had I ever even considered marriage as something I wanted to do. We'd been together for three years, and I'm not going to lie, losing her shattered my world. I was an absolute wreck for more than six months.

But now, I have a woman in my life who is simply beyond amazing and loves me for me despite having found me at the lowest point I've ever been at.

I know how heart-rendingly painful breakups can be. Just keep in mind that they never last forever, and darkness will always give way to light if you just have the perseverance to wait it out. :)

Break-ups are tough, there's no doubt about it Egan. Especially if it is with someone you've been with for a really long time. I know how painful it can be, and I have gone through a similar experience. I was with a boyfriend recently in real life (No, not online, in real life, I know it's shocking  :S ) and he finally broke up with me. I felt similar to how you do now, like he was my everything, like I just wanted things to go back to the way they were and back to how they should be.

In all honesty, like many here have said before and to which I agree with, time will only heal this kind of wound. I agree with much of what has been said. I would also consider finding a hobby to take your mind off of what has happened or focusing on things like school or work to take your mind off of it. Remember; if you ever need a listening ear, this one is always open and ready to listen Egan.

My best wishes to you young dragon of the East!

Outside on a winter's night as the rain begins to fall
There's a chill in the air and the howl of a wolf while the rain beats at the door
Seven kings will ride on the wind up towards        the mountains high
And the only sound that will break the air is the warrior's bitter cry

For those who know me I'm still kicking around here, enjoying life. For those who don't know me I do invite you to get to know me if you'd like :3.
