Of course it depends where you strike. An elbow has many milliseconds less time to dissipate the deceleration over compared to a forearm, so naturally the force will be higher, leading to more damage. It's also one of the reasons falling on your head is more dangerous than falling on your arms. It is to do with flesh thickness and coverage, if you understand my reasoning.

has more to do with area ^_^

elbow is a small area, something like the palm of your hand, has much larger area, and dissipates the fall better due to lower pressure.
but yep, pretty much :P No doubt flesh coverage plays a role as well XP
I wouldn't want to fall on my elbow from 4 feet xD

True, area plays a part. But let me put flesh coverage this way. If you were to fall off a roof, would you rather land on a stack of mattresses or a concrete patio? Same deal with flesh coverage. Reducing the N/m[super]2[/super] works too, but that comes after flesh thickness. Force = acceleration x mass I think. Or something. Force is proportionate to acceleration/deceleration. So if you lengthen the time... Lets work in energy. 4500J for being hit by a 1000kg car moving at 10 mph. Approximately. Would you rather that hit you over a second or instantly? In other words, would it be more comfortable with a bajillion cushions strapped to the front? Yes, though still not pleasant at all. :3

...Darn I broke my point. If you decrease the force by increasing the time deceleration acts in, reducing the deceleration assuming the same starting velocity, then increasing the area has less effect.

indeed, you are absolutely correct, but, your head, elbow, and most areas you generally land on don't have enough flesh coverage to make the theory practical xP


which, is why I used the example of palm vs elbow :P


Anyhow, back when I was on my robotics team in high school, a guy lost the upper portion of a finger to a stationary grinding wheel, not fun. they never let us use the grinder again after that :P
Another guy I know, lost a large chunk of his leg to a milling machine/lathe (probably lathe, I forget now) when the workpiece got loose, and he was sitting down, and couldn't get away from the machine fast enough.

Just recently parkouring with a friend, and we sliding down a roof of the church in downtown (about four stories) and i missed time to jump and barley grabbed the gutter one handed (dunno how it held) my buddy was following me and he figured I dropped off on purpose, and he didn't see me grab the gutter...  He's still in the hospital after landing on his arm...
