Well you know what they say, if you can't beat them, join them, and you can't beat me > so join me! The rules are pretty simple.

1. You must have all digits in your number equal the last digit
2. You cannot add or remove numbers and you cannot change the order of numbers
3. You can use any operator like +, -, *, /, you may also use negative numbers (-5) as that is an operator. Square roots are also allowed to be sued even though that's technically introducing a number.

This thread is a bit tricky so try the Count to a Million thread first

Here's an example

(9 - 9 + 7 - 6)*3 = 1

Really it's just trial and error, for example

I want to get to one

(-6) + 7 (which is what I meant to put in my other post) equals 1.

I can cancel out the 9's pretty easily, 9 - 9 = 0, but there's that last 3 that bothers me (9 - 9 - 6 + 7 + 3 = 4, not 1)

However, if I can get those two 9's to equal 3, I can cancel out the 3

I know the √9 = 3, but we have two 9's. I also know that 9 / 3 = 3 so I can say 9 / √9 = 3

Then we have 3 + 1 - 3 = 1

So the final solution is

(9 / √9) - 6 + 7 - 3 = 1

Alright, do me a favour, look up a youtube channel called Numberphile, they do lots of cool videos on maths (without actually doing a lot of maths which is interesting!) You will find random numbers you never thought were interesting, to be REALLY interesting!

Here's one on a famous number called Grahams number, it's the largest number ever used in a practical problem, it's so big that if you were to write out the number of digits in Grahams number, that number (that represents the amount of digits in Grahams number) would exceed the amount of atoms that exists in the observable universe. The number is so big that to store it in computers would require more computational power that is capable in the entire universe. The number is so big, that if you could comprehend it, your mind would literally, and scientifically, collapse into a blackhole.
