Take a look at how the world has been degrading after they started doing more "for the world". Ex, I don't recall America getting into a war every few years back before WWII (The last war we had lots of nationalistic pride in). Nations also have become more diverse, which is tearing them apart. They need a glue to keep them together which they all choose to use. Nationalism. "A house divided against itself can not stand"

Hmmm... It is almost exclusively bad. However, if a vast majority of (like 85%) people are working towards the same goals, it could be advantageous because it would streamline the processes.
