As you said I would have my house build in the mountens. There would be a steep-ish slope and half of my house would be sticking out. Once you go inside it would descend a few feet and you would enter the main living space. Above you there would be a skylight.
To your right and left would be hallways to bedrooms. and straight ahead would go to more living space like a weight lifting room, sparring room, and such.
The look would be old style with wood timbers lining the corners and wood plants as the walls.
The furnishings would also be made out of wood, very old style county look, dark woods proffered. ^_^
