Relative to all the other games I saw at E3, halo 4 had the most original gameplay.

Take that as either all the games are completely unoriginal or halo 4 is really original, I don't mind, but the fact is halo 4 has the most original gameplay so far

there are a generation of people who were too young to play the first halo so dont understand the hype


but lots of modern shooters on consoles took inspiration from it


this was the first game to add the gun swapping mechanic and ai with the abilitie to flank you


the reason you don't see the appeal is because many other games have copied its mechanics.

well yea that was true for anniversary but in other games they have had innovations halo 3 (Forge mode) ,halo 2 (dual guns and hijacking) and halo reach (armour abilities and JETPACKS .

To be fair...

Forge was already done, but better, in garrysmod, which came out before halo 3
Dual guns have been done in several games, though not to the extent of halo 2
Hijacking was new
Armour abilities have been "rather" new, I mean, I'd like to call Samus out, but it might not be the same
Jetpacks are old, as old as duke nukem 3d

I am kind of excited, especially since Forge has been confirmed by a 343 employee on a MLG video, I usually don't pay attention to MLG but it was new footage. Though I am still unsure with some of the things they are adding in, but I am still excited for it, especially with the things I was unsure of cleared up more.

The graphics are arguably one of the areas of lesser quality within Halo. Although Halo 3 had some stunning displays, overall the graphical quality was lacking. Reach upped the ante, but still hasn't arisen to the level of quality you'd have expected for its time.

The industry still regards Halo: Combat Evolved as having revolutionised console shooters. Whether or not you agree with this is up to you, though its influence cannot be denied. It also popularised shooters on the console, and has found a formula which has worked wonders for it. It is unlikely to change.

I do not understand why others like it so much.

Because of the tight, responsive gameplay, the level design, the lore surrounding it, the competitive and tactical depth, the creativity it promotes, the abundance of modes and extras...I could probably go on, though I feel my point has been made. There is plenty to enjoy.
