Nova watched in horror as the chaos unfolded around him. Perched on top of the humvee he was safe enough, but the inferno on the pavement was growing and had engulfed Ip's car. He heard no response from anybody over the radio, and could only hope they were too engaged in the fight to respond. Katelyn's cries reached his ears, and swinging wildly at the bunch of consumers still left around his humvee, he noticed that Ip's car was not the only one that had moved- Himawari had managed quite the feat of crowd control herself, but now was driving off... away from the fight? A chilling thought occurred to Nova, on top of the need to save his own vehicle from being overrun. "Her condition..." he thought. "There's no way she's remained unaffected through all this!" With an effort he dismounted the car, sliced down as many consumers in the immediate vicinity of his humvee as he could, and sprinted off after Himawari's vehicle. "I'm sorry Katelyn, I'll be back as soon as I can!" He didn't have time to stand and fight, so he merely shot dead any foe that came near him and ignored the rest. "Himawari!" He shouted desperately over the radio. "Himawari, please come in!" He didn't expect a response, and he didn't get one. He watched helplessly as her car lazily drifted off the road and crunched to a stop against some rocks. He reached the scene of the crash and looked behind him. The last of the particularly ambitious monsters had run after him, and with a growl of anger Nova reloaded his gunblade and aimed at his crazed opponents.
One, two, three, four, five... he dropped them all with adrenaline-fuled efficiency. Back on the road, the fire had spread and the horde was considerably diminished. The ground now was covered with blood and corpses, many of which were blackened and singed by the blaze. He wondered what could have possessed them to run at it, as a significant portion had simply fled from the murderous heat and were now nowhere to be seen. He saw what he thought looked like several figures standing safely away from Ip's burning Jeep, and prayed that they were indeed his comrades and not triumphant consumers. Elsewhere the mangled bodies of those run over by various vehicles lay deformed and in some cases still twitching, but posing no threat. The few that still stood would surely be picked off by Katelyn, Luke, Jared and the others, at least he hoped so. Now his attention turned back to Himawari- he flung her door open and gasped as he saw her pale, listless body draped over the dashboard. "Shit! Please be ok!" he hissed as he pried her from the seat and laid her gently on the ground. The sounds of the carnage were no further away, but they seemed faint to Nova. All his attention now was on trying to bring Himawari back. "Come on," he said, looking down at the pained expression on her unconscious face. "They're almost all gone now, please wake up..."
