After scanning the immediate area one last time, Nova went after Katelyn to help her with her objective. It was then that he heard the scream, followed soon after by a deafening gunshot that he recognized as Katelyn's rifle, and bolted outside in alarm to investigate. He saw Katelyn looking staggered there in the snow, and in front of her in the distance he just made out one of the hulking consumers getting its head blown off and crumpling to the ground. In front of it lay an indistinct figure, he couldn't tell exactly what it was, but it looked an awful lot like Himawari and the fact that it was right next to her car confirmed that assumption in his mind. Drawing his weapon, he swore savagely as he noticed all the commotion coming towards them. Just as Harold had said, they were under attack in massive numbers now and these were clearly no ordinary adversaries. "Nova!" He heard from behind him, and turned to see Ip looking his usual timid self times about a million sprinting towards them. "Nova, what's going on, they're attacking us aren't they?" he said in a quivering voice. "I had just come over to-" Nova cut him off angrily with a wave of his blade. "It doesn't matter what you were doing, because right now you're gonna shut up and listen to me!" He glanced quickly between Ip, Katelyn, and the bunker where Luke and Warren still were. With a furious shake of his head he screamed out, "Goddammit it doesn't matter! No time for plans! All of you get inside the main building with the others, prepare your weapons, do something!! I'll retrieve Himawari, don't worry about me, just run!" He took off then, sprinting as fast as he could towards Himawari's body.
Through the blowing snow he saw the horde advancing on their position, a couple other particularly aggressive Consumers going straight for what the now decapitated one had started. Nova knew his gun was nowhere close to the caliber of Katelyn's but hoped it would be at least effective in holding them off while he rescued Himawari. As they closed in, he fired off several shots at each of them and watched as the force of the bullets impacting their flesh sent them staggering backwards. Feeling empowered, he lined up one more shot for each as he reached Himawari and attempted to drive a bullet between their eyes. To his dismay, though each shot was true and sent the monsters on their backs, it was clear by their blood curdling shrieks that they were nowhere close to dead. He didn't wait to watch them recover, instead he grabbed Himawari's freezing limp body with his left arm, wincing from the pain of the wound in his straining shoulder and jogged towards the main building. He could feel blood running down his arm and knew it was not his own; it was the only warmth emanating from the woman now. He hoped the others had made it inside and were faring better than his human friend, apparently barely alive and leading on a colossal mass of what surely were the most horrifying creatures ever to walk the Earth.
