OFT to ban TF2 hats?
« on: May 03, 2013, 12:24:10 PM »
people may of recently heard how the 5 year old Danny kitchen ended up paying £1,710 on addon's for the game zombies vs ninjas on the i phone leading to his parents campaigning for free games to be "free" thus destroying the free game market.
that last statement got me worried... If TF2 is now freemium where does that put there hat's? Imagine the impact on valve and the steam community if the Office of Fair Trading suddenly forced TF2 to no longer be free? what could valve do to help the people who create weapons, hats and maps for the Mann Co store?....Heck what will Saxton Hale do?

Make Tf2 not free anymore?
It never was to begin with.

Ahh good old orange box

well then it's third party and then the new law (that will probably fail to reach anything other than "why are parents giving their children their creditcards?") won't affect TF2.

Seriously, I blame the parents.

Nothing will come of it, TF2 and its hats will be fine.

Valve's always been open source and willing to accept mods and so on. The people who make a living making hats, worst case scenario, would have to pay $20 to get the game, then they could continue making hats.

I also don't think you can destroy the free gaming market, if you're stupid enough to give a 5 year old your credit card details. They don't understand how economics works, you can't make a free game completely free, and people have made other outrageous claims to ban video games as a whole, none of these have come to true though. I wouldn't worry about it.
