Here's a good idea for a WARM dessert from Chinese culture: (Feeds at least 4-10 depending on your choice of serving size)
Materials:
-4 yams (sweet potatoes)
-2 to 3 brown sugar sticks (depends on size. use more if small)
-Standard pot
Steps:
1) Fill pot 2/3 of the way with clean water and heat to a boil.
2) Wash yams, peel and wash again.
3) Cut into slices no thicker than 1/4 of an inch.
4) When boiling, place all sugar sticks into water for 15 minutes or however long it takes to melt into water.
5) Place yam slices into water after sugar has completely melted, switch to medium heat and cover pot.
6) Let cook for 30 minutes and then turn off the fire.
7) Uncover and let set for at least 15 minutes.
To serve, basically scoop the soup and yam slices into bowl. Drink the soup with a large spoon with portions of the soft slices. Best served hot, but still good warm. Not very good cold. Reheat as necessary.
