The speed-thingy showed ~120-130km/h on the previous trains.


Which sounds about right considering the distance and stuff.

Nope, they standardly are that slow...

I reckon it's because of the speed limits preventing them of going that fast, all the time, since the NL is a chronically overpopulated country... >_>

Uh, the government allows trains to drive up to 130-140 km/h on most paths. However, when passing villages, cities or other residential area, there's usually a lower maximum speed. And passing residential areas happens a lot.

Higher speed for Belgian trains has 3 categories

Normal mainline: Just 110-160 KM/H
Modernized Higher speed: 160-200 KM/H
High speed: 200-320 KM/H

I kinda don't understand how someone can get away with not riding a single train in their lifetime...

I mean, IMO, they're pretty handy ways of public transport over long distances. (Unless you live in some place like Scotland, where busses are a more viable alternative)
