Well first method is bull.

Never said it was instant. The book only said it'll happen, but it didn't specify when.
Could also be there was something else to it I don't currently remember.

Same thing with the bibles. It might be that that one only worked on holy Thursday.

I should see if I could find that book again. It was really interesting.
It was about the burning times in the nordic countries. Relevant and stuff.
