My first metal band was metalcore: As I Lay Dying.

The 5 albums you must try:

Rage Against The Machine-Rage Against The Machine. The first album by the band and by far the best imo. The mix of rap with metal, anti government lyrics and raw energy is what youll find here.

Korn-follow the leader. Freak on a leash and pretty. Nough said.

Pantera-vulgar display of power. The cover is a guy getting punched in the face. It fits the title perfectly. Walk is by far the most popular popular, but live in a hole and by demons be driven are badass.

Deftones-around the fur. Now i love all of Deftones album, everyone of them is great. However this one is my personal favourite. My own summer is one of the greatest songs they've produce,  but the whole album is just great.

Pearl Jam-ten. With songs such as Once, Alive, why go, Black, Jeremy, porch, dirty frank, one of PJs best albums ever.

I am a lover of thrash metal at heart. One of my favorite albums is Kill 'Em All by Metallica, which I think is sadly underappreciated. Most metal I listen to spans the eighties to the early nineties.

Haven't listened much to metal until recently so I've only listened to a few of the more well-known bands

Some of my favorites would have to be Iron Maiden (by far), Black Sabbath, Anthrax, Judas Priest.

By the way, anyone know of any bands that sound similar to Iron Maiden's earlier stuff (think Number of the Beast or Powerslave)? I just love that sound and want to know what other stuff there is that's somewhat similar.

I am so glad I found this thread :D I'm a big fan of alot of power and progressive metal but I am also quite fond of pagan and black metal too.
Our mere existence is enough reason to carry on. Never let others steal your lust for life. Life is all you have and it is all you will get. Cling to it until the universe says it's time to let go. Then rest, only then have you earned it.
