The Making of a Fursuit
« on: July 07, 2014, 03:28:25 AM »
As of roughly noon today, I have begun work on my very first fursuit. Horray! I have never made a costume to this extent [and price,,,] before, so it has certainly been an interesting experience.

Here is my progress thus far.

Spoiler for Start of the base:

Spoiler for Added eyes & more foam:

Spoiler for Added ears & adjusted face shape:

Spoiler for Finishing touches:

And that's as far as I can get without furring.

My mom's friend is giving me her sewing machine, so I'm waiting on that before I begin the body.

So, the sewing machine I was going to recieve was aparently thrown out. Bummer. In other news, I'm scrapping the head I made because it was too small [saving some of the foam from it, though.]

To ensure proper proportions of head-to-body, starting Monday evening I've been working on basically everything but the head.

It took aprx. 10 hours total to make the body, spread out over three days, and another 3 hours to make the feet. I've started making the gloves, but haven't taken any shots of them yet.

Spoiler for Body WIP shot:

Spoiler for Completed body:

Spoiler for Pawfeet:

I might touch up the feet some tomorrow [or later today, rather], since it's like 1AM and I need to go to sleep.

How hard is it to sew the suit and sculpt the head?

Thank you all! I've also completed the pawhands, and I'm nearly done with the tails [yeah...plural], but I haven't gotten any pics of those yet.

Thanks! It's not too bad, actually...I can't wear it for more than an hour without getting too hot, though, so for cons I might not wear the full thing.

In other news, it's actually completed! Here are some more photos:

Spoiler for Second head attempt progress:

And lastly...Here is the full suit!

I don't have any photos of the making of the tails, but there are two of them, as attempted to be shown in the last image. I also cleaned up the fur more than what was shown in the head progress, as well as cleaned up the fur on the feet and corrected some minor areas in the sewing.

It's far from professional looking, but I'm very proud of how well it turned out considering my mediocrity!

For comparison, here is my drawing of the character:
