To be honest, I don't completely love many of the new Pokemon designs either. Mostly because I feel they're too complex and Digimon-esque. Not as a ripoff, but with the "glue every cool-looking thing on 'em!" concept, as opposed to the "animals adapted to elemental stuffs" approach they used to go with.

I know about those Pokemon. I'm just saying that all the generations had inanimate object/non-animal Pokemon. It's really no different aside from the complexity.
