As she doned the armor, she worried what would happen to her. In her village, men went off to fight the monsters, and the women stayed home to care for the land. She had never wanted that life for herself. For as long as she could remember, she had wanted to go on amazing journeys, like the knights told stories of. She wnated to slay dragons, save damsels, and above, be hero in the eyes of her family and towns-people.
As she put on the last few pieces of armor, minus the helmet, she turned to look at the mirror.
"Alright, Faye. This is it
the moment you've been waiting for. You either do this right, and come home a hero. Or you don't, and mother will recieve your helmet in a blck box."
She shivered. Never before had she allowed herself to imagine what would happen to her if things didn't go according to plan. She allowed herself to think on this for a few minutes, then pushed the idea out of her mind as she finally put on the heavy iron helmet.
On her way out, she wrote her parents a note. Telling them not to worry, but that she loved them with all her heart. Then she grabbed her horses bridal & saddle, and she left. Ready to start her new life.
