Alien: Shipwreck (OCC) (Sci-Fi, Horror, Sandbox)
« on: December 28, 2014, 09:42:24 PM »
It's no doubt you know of the Alien from the Aliens franchise. Alien: Isolation released recently and beyond that the Alien is rated one of the most Iconic monsters of all time. So how about you (yes you) are stuck on a shipwreck on a salvaging mission when you find that there's actually something that's been causing these ships to end up floating endlessly though space with little sign of any crew.

Premise:
You are among a group of friends. You guys have been doing great making a living off of boarding derelict space craft and salvaging whatever you can find. It's however been a tough run and the last few ships have just been small private cruisers that didn't have much to them in the first place.
But what's this? A massive ship in the distance? Looks like a cargo vessel. the USCSS Nalfar. You and your crew radio it to find no response at all. Nothing being broadcast from it either. You look amongst yourselves and realise that this is the mother-lode. Close inspection shows that it was taken out my a meteor storm after a shield failure. There are some online systems: Life Support is intact thought 80% of the ship. The Bulkhead didn't fail to contain the breaches... you'd think someone would have survived. Oh well. their loss.

How this is going to work:
This is going to be some pretty experimental stuff with a hint of DnD. You guys are going to RP while I control the variables, namely the Alien(s?).
I'll set the scenes and please by all means find your own creative ways to get out of situations. However keep in mind that this is a survival horror and I'll make sure that things will be tense by taxing your actions.
e.g. you encounter the alien, but you've somehow managed to make an improvised sort of weapon. You indicate that you're swinging at it to fend it off. I see this and think, ok, you've hit it, however it's acid blood has sprayed everywhere and dicintigrated part of your suit and some of your leg, making it very difficult to move and impossible to enter an are without life support, which I will probably push you towards because I'm evil.
No worries though, I'll let you come back as an Alien and we may even have a sequel along the lines somewhere.

Character sheet:
Name:
Age:
Species:
Role: (technician, hacker, pilot, doctor, etc)
Special Training: (Did you pick something up somewhere that made you good at what you do?)
Back Story: (make your character come alive)

I'm not including weapons, however I will Assign one person to have some form of gun before I start.
All characters will have this as standard equipment:
Mk-50 Compression suit
Plasma torch for welding, cutting open
Torch/Radio headset

Rules:
No Multiple Characters (You can try, but I'll have fun killing them off)
No Godmodding (I will make an alien burst out of your chest if that's the case)
Read everything and structure your posts. I want your posts to be descriptive of the surroundings, emotions, etc.
Have fun

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them.
If you want to join some way into the RP, there'll always be a way.
I can't always be here, so message me and I'll assign a new GM

Name: Barrett Fulton

Age: 27

Species: black German shepherd

Role: Guard/weapons tech specialist

Special training: he worked for the merchant marines as a weapons tech scavenger and a guard of sorts( to scare people off his claims, mostly )when weapons tech was nowhere to be found, as it often is. Before that, he worked for the colonial marines as an EOD tech, though he will not say if he was honorably or dishonorably discharged

Backstory: Barrett is a spacer; he was born in a cold, metal machine, and, as his birth suggests, he feels at home in them. He can count the number of times he willingly went down to a "dirt ball" on one hand, and even then, he still hated it. Everything was different. The gravity was off. The air didn't have that purified tinge to it that he so loved. And, there wasn't the ever present hum of a ships reactor to lull him to sleep. And let's not forget how dirty it was!
He did his tour of duty as an EOD tech, or at least most of it (again, his discharge has quite a bit of ambiguity to it) floating around various colonies, defusing what often turned out to be nothing. When he heard a group of his friends were forming a salvage company, he jumped at the opportunity to pocket quite a bit of cash, and that is where he is now!

Name: Law
Age: 24
species: White feline
Role: Technician
Special Training: Wiring, some computer code and piano (helps when needing a steady hand)

Back Story: Born and Raised on Earth, from a broken family. Did especially well in their academic studies, throughout college but wasn't awfully keen on university. Missed their deadline to apply to college regretting it dearly, but instead with initiative and the internet available Law learnt even more. Eventually Law made small business, fixing things like cameras, tablets, phones, anything techy. You could ask Law anything and it was always yes, even if they didn't know how to do it, they'd just find out how to. Fast learner.

Eventually, they got bored of the Earth, Law always had an affinity for the stars and space. And so left to go places, much more exciting. Worked on some cargo ships, doing mainly maintenance, but always hated the lack of a view to the outside.
