OT: Quite seriously, there is a sort of "valley of hidden" you want to be in, too hidden, and when the secret gets out people assume the worst, not hidden enough, and everyone knows, and those who don't know you well assume the worst due to the media.

imo this makes it more suspicious, and if someone finds out, they'll assume being a furry is something to be ashamed of, and possibly that the stereotypes are true.

But the thing is that I never call it "a weird thing", I only assume that's what people make of it from looking at my stuff without me really saying anything at all xP


Imo the whole fandom sounds so strange that no matter how you tell people about it or try to explain it they'll end up googling it anyway if they get curious enough.
At least that's what I do when people tell me about stuff that somehow end up catching my interest. That's kinda how I found out about the fandom xP

My friends might know about it, because I'm in some furry related Steam groups on my main account, but I never told anyone about it directly as I'm scared of their possible reactions.

I think the biggest thing about "coming out" as a furry is that it's really not necessary. Yes, you can be proud of it, but there really doesn't need to be a time where you tell anyone if you really don't want to. Don't feel pressured.


If you do want to tell someone, don't treat it like it's weird. Explain it simply, and say why you like it. True friends will understand and most family members might. Everyone likes different things, and that's okay too.


However, if someone thinks it's different in a bad way, seems uninterested, or just doesn't care, don't take it offensively. Not everyone will understand and not everyone will be as eager as you are. Just brush it off, remember that it's normal to be you, and don't worry about it.

Recently I explained to my family and friends found out that I'm a furry.
Family doesn't care, while friends keep asking me about the fandom, my fursona, why am I one and keeps hating me and saying I'm a weirdo, but I don't give a fu*k.

The only person that knows I'm a furry is my boyfriend I met on furtag.. When it still existed that is.  But no way I could tell my judgemental friends!

Yes some of my friends do especially those who are furry them selves... But when my non fur friends got to know that i am a Fur.. i got dumped almost eminently by almost everyone because they though i was crazy or something

I think people already know I'm interested in furry since I always have two mini fox tails attached to the side of my bag or right side of my trousers with chains, and sometimes wear a Lapfox teeshirt. I also clearly show I'm a fur on Facebook, you just have to look at who I'm friends with or my interests.

But I've never announced it like "Hey everyone, I'm a furry", I like to let other people guess it. I think I'm gonna buy a paw necklace this summer and an extra tail for cosplaying (big tails I only wear on certain occasions).

Yes, but I wouldn't say they are my close friends. I have "school friends" whom have recently graduated and I don't believe I'll see them again. I have a hard time making close friends and keeping them.
