Do Your Friends Know You're a Furry?

I wanted to test the waters with my boyfriend last night and I said "You know, I think I'm going to be a furry." and his response was pulling a face like he'd just seen something painfully awkward on TV (for example, ANY scene from The Office (uk)) and he said "Yeah... Don't." and I was like "What?" and he just kept saying 'Don't". He didn't say it in a nasty or serious tone, just like a 'that's silly' tone. But either way, it looks like I've hit a brick wall on that one. For now.

I also told my friends, but not in person, just in a joint conversation on Facebook (It's how we generally keep in contact, we don't meet up often anymore). But again, just testing the waters, I didn't say "I'm furry", I just mentioned that I wanted a fursuit (I didn't call it a fursuit, I said "You know furies? I want a suit like that"), but sorta justified it by saying I really wanted to 'cosplay' but with a character I've made myself, and that I'd rather wear a mask because otherwise I'd get self concious and wouldn't be able to enjoy myself.

One of them said "That sounds cool" and nothing else (she's usually the chatty one) and I know that's her stock response for 'I'm not really interested'. The other friend just didn't say anything. Not even to make a sarcastic joke (that's the way she is, and I wouldn't change her for the world lol) so I don't know really.
I think they'll just forget about it. But hey, it's out there.

None of my friends know. If they did, they'd be bugging me about it CONSTANTLY. My family doesn't know either, cuz I don't really think it's relevant to tell them. I don't really bring it up, but I don't really try not to.

I drop hints about it all the time but I don't think my friends take is seriously.

I get the feeling more people know now than I thought. This is purely speculation at the moment though.

A friend of mine has been slightly exposed to drawings of Gravedigger, because naturally as the monster I feel when angry, he has seemed to have taken over Armonia's throne for my mood about myself. But back to the point. The friend doesn't know I'm a furry, and she'll probably think it's really cool and won't tell a soul. I'll have to tell her eventually, but for right now "I have a lot of creativity with drawing the stuff that I do and it always looks cool." (Some sort of quote or whatever. She said something similar to me once.)

I suppose I do wish in some small way that I did have a furry friend offline just to chat with. Some people do know I am furry (people who I knew would be fine with it). Still, I don't really talk about it with them since it isn't their thing. I don't talk to people about my other hobbies that they don't really get, unless they ask of course. Why ramble at people who aren't into it when they likely don't get it and don't even really care? Knowing somebody who is actually a furry would probably have a perk or two.

One of my friends converted to a furry, after I showed him what I was.
A couple of friend are like, no, don't bring it up. (Basically they don't like furries.)
Another friend doesn't even understand the concept.

Well, now 1 friend knows (my closest) and he says im weird, but he doesn't alienate me because of it.

Weird is not an insult. not in the slightest. We are a group of people who wear collars, dress up in fursuits, and regularly pretend to be animal/human hybrids. Thats pretty damn weird.

The important thing is not to "be normal" it is to know what you do that is weird, and to embrace it.


OT: most of my friends know, only one cares. I am fairly open about it, it seems to cause less problems that way.
